Student Talent Showcase Abundant and Turning 49-Years-Old

As homecoming rolls around each year at Hardin-Simmons University, two music fraternities are busy planning and preparing for the biggest show of the year!

All-School SING!, in its 49th year, is a student produced showcase of some of the best talent HSU has to offer.

Social clubs and student groups have seven to nine minutes each to put on fully- choreographed musical shows, band accompanied and all! Acts from previous years have spanned the gamut; from musical show tunes, to hair-band anthems, to Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

Prior to performances, however, individual shows are super-secret according to the President of the HSU chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. Natalie Hill says, "I can't disclose any of the themes of the individual shows, but I can tell you the overall theme is a take-off on the show Whose Line Is It Anyway? Were calling it Whose SING Is It Anyway?"

The individual acts are eligible for 5 awards: Best Vocals, Best Choreography, Best Creativity, Runner-up, and First Place. The shows are judged on Friday and Saturday nights by a panel of 5 judges, with a different panel each night.

All-School SING! is hosted and planned by Sigma Alpha Iota and Phi Mu Alpha, the two music fraternities at Hardin-Simmons, as a music department fundraiser. However, the show is a collaborative effort of many student organizations on campus.

In addition to the main shows, other acts will keep the audience entertained in-between performances. In the past few years stand-up comedy, silent skits, opera, and parodies of pop culture have been just a few of the antics of HSU students.

The World-Famous Cowboy band and the Spurs Dance Team will also perform.

All-Schools Sing! started back in the spring of 1962. It was moved to Homecoming several years later.

SING! is Friday and Saturday night, October 16 - 17, 8 p.m. at Behrens Auditorium. Tickets range from $8-12, depending on seat location.
