Random Thoughts

Just sitting here wondering what to write about with an open date this week.

Studies have shown that to have a successful blog such as this one, you have to put something here for folks to read on a regular basis. I don't want to lose any good folks that are reading this blog so let me throw this topic out and see what ya'll think.

Abilene Wylie is going to Snyder to play the Tigers Friday night. If I lived in Sweetwater, I would take a trip over there to see two good football teams play.

As I mentioned last week, I would hope that Snyder wins the game so Sweetwater, Snyder, and Abilene Wylie would have the same district record with one game left in the regular season. It should be a great game. Here is my prediction.

I think Snyder has a very tough, quality football team. I think their coach is top notch. I guess I should mention all of the coaches in 4-3A are top notch, but the Snyder coach I think is a key ingredient to the Snyder mystic if that's the right word. He's plenty sharp.
With that said, Coach Hugh Sandifer is no sloutch himself. Both programs are very good, both coaches are very good also.

Let's look at the players.

Lat year, as everyone knows, Abilene Wylie won the 3A Division 1 state championship. Now, I don't know if anyone agrees or not, but personally, I think this year's Wylie team is better than last year's if that's possible. I think the players are bigger and stronger, and I think Case Keenum has more tools to use in that offense than last year.

The same thing can be said of Snyder. They are not a 1 man rushing giant like they were last year. The Snyder game plan includes lots more passing in their game and they are very good at it.

So if both versions of Snyder and Wylie are better than last year, who do I think wins this game?
Good question. Here is the key matchup. If Snyder's defense can hold Wylie off the boards, they will win. The key to this game in other words will be Snyder's defense and how they can contain Keenum. All indications look to Wylie to win. Take both games that Sweetwater played, and Wylie dominated more than Snyder did.

But something in the back of my mind says Snyder may have a teeny bit more heart. It's just a guess. So in answer to the big question who wins..I have to give two answers because the game may be that close.
1) If Snyder plays with all their heart and the defense holds Wylie to 14 or less points, Snyder wins
2) If Wylie gets their lines (both offense and defense) which are bigger than Snyder's line to control the line of scrimmage and pass block well, Wylie wins.

I wish I could be more definate in an answer than that, but that's just how close this game may be.

Hope ya'll enjoy the game if you go.

Lew,
I have to agree that this game is tough to call. After seeing both games against our beloved Mustangs, I have to give the nod to Wylie. They are just down right more physical than Snyder. Snyder can say they just were not ready for Sweetwater or they had a bad game or whatever, but I don't believe that. They know as well as we know that anytime we meet each other, we play our best and so do they.

LEW, I WOULD GO, BUT, I BET SOMEONE OTHER THAN THE TWO SCHOOLS CANNOT GET A SEAT. WYLIE HAS A LARGE FOLLOWING, THEY FILLED THE VISITORS SIDE AT THE BOWL, I NEVER HAD SEEN THAT BEFORE.
I THINK WYLIE WILL TAKE THE WIN, EVEN ON THE ROAD. BUT, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN WEST TEXAS ON A FRIDAY NIGHT.

Well, Lew I read what you wrote and the other two comments. Maybe it is wishful thinking but I just lean a little toward Snyder. I think that the Mustangs just had a bad night against Wylie. I think they can play better then they did that night. It could be because I hope for a Snyder win. I agree with everybody, however, that the teams are very close.
