Dear Mustangs,

It's Friday. Game night.

Just something for you to think about while you wait for Clyde to come in the "snake pit".

I don't know if you keep up with this ol blog or not, I suspect ya'll do, but I just wanted to mention that one of your biggest fans is J.B. Laughlin.
I first "met" J.B. on this blog and I found an immediate interest in him because of some comments he made regarding how long he has been a Mustang fan. I don't know if ya'll noticed or not, but he even played ball with the great Sammy Baugh.

Through several postings on this blog, I sort of get to know folks. I found out J.B. has been married for over 50 years, I found out all sorts of things. J.B. and his wife live over in New Mexico and he doesn't get the chance to get to Mustang Bowl much anymore.

The thing I like about J.B.'s posts are, you Mustangs can do no wrong. You Mustangs probably go through his mind several times a day. He feels and expects you Mustangs to win state! Now you may be asking yourselves, why would this nice man in New Mexico care that much about what happens in Sweetwater's Mustang Bowl?

Let me try and explain it. It's called TRADITION. Like J.B., Sweetwater has a long line of success in football. It is the common link between you Mustangs of today, and the class of 1940. The tradition of winning at Sweetwater High School. When Sweetwater wins, in some strange way we older fans can say to ourselves that the years may fly by before us, but Sweetwater Mustangs continue to win. It' a constant factor that we cling to.

J.B. noted on just a previous post awhile ago that he is going in for some kind of surgery. Do me a favor Mustangs. As you walk down the stairs tonight, say a little prayer for your biggest fan that is thinking of you out in New Mexico.

Go get Clyde!!!!!!!!

Thanks Lew. I feel very unworthy of all you say about me. However, I am a devoted Mustang fan. And what you say about tradition is so true. Mustang tradition is deeply ingrained in me and many others.Go get'em Stangs. We love our Mustangs!!!

I have been thinking about this tradition thing. The farsighted people of 70 years ago who built the Mustang Bowl were seeing the athletes of today and the use they would make of these facilities. All the great names I can remember. Towner Leeper, one of the greatest QBs that ever pulled on a Mustang Jersey. John Berry, Buddy Headrick, the Feagones and all the rest. What a group. Their spirits are with you Mustangs!!!! Do them proud!!! When I walk in that stadium it is almost like hallowed grounds. Go Big Red. The past is looking on.

J.B.
From one big Mustang fan to another, I hope your surgery goes well and you mend quickly. Don't want to miss any of the playoff games!

I thought I responded earlier to your well wishes but I think I lost it before it was posted. Thanks for the well wishes.

The Mustangs didn't roll over Clyde with the authority I'd hoped for, but a win is a win. This is a good FB team and we will play better. Makes me wonder if Coach Jackson may have held back a little for reasons he knows about. Go Mustangs!!!
