A different perspective....

Wow, I just got home and saw two comments from Monahans fans...take a look.

"Monahans has no problem STOPPING THE RUN!! They stop the run on Bridgeport all night, as they have done with other great teams. It's the passing that Monahans has a problem with.

Monahans/Sweetwater: As I have said in the past, "Mirror images maybe not, Powerhouses I think so!!" I believe the last one with the pigskin will win this one!! Bridgeport was the toughest team by far that Monahans has faced yet. Good thing too.. This helps Monahans with any situation that Sweetwater may/will throw at them. I believe that the last three games Monahans has faced will help them beat Sweetwater!! IMO!! Prediction: Monahans by 3"

and this,

"Hey guys,
Just wanted to say that this is an interesting blog. I graduated from Monahans in '03, and I can tell you that we're in for a great game this Friday. Great stadium, great fans, and two great teams. One thing though, don't underestimate the Loboes, because them boys have heart. That's what got them to where they are today, and that's what's going to get them through the rest of the way.

Good luck to all."

And from my friend in Snyder:

"Hey Lew
The next game is a big one. AS all of them are! And of course I wish Snyder was there, (probably in Big Spring.) But it will be Monahans instead. And at first I didn't think they were for real and now I'am reconsidering, I think both teams will have to play good ball to WIN!I want to wish yall both good luck, but deepdown I will be rooting for our district. (don't tell anyone)lol
And being 1 of 8 teams left in the State of Texas, one can only say wow, I know last year was wonderful to an old Tiger, I never thought I would see it, but there is a new attitude (winning), in Snyder and our rivalry with Sweetwater will never Die, (Breed in our kids)lol but this year has been different, it's not just
Football,it's 4-3A Football!!!! Add some Monahans people have been talking noise on other webs, (Ft. Stockton) lol (I think you know what I am talking about)and by no way am I talking about all of Monahans just a few (we were overrated) and I guess that they were underrated. Anyway; I wish yall the best of luck and win for the your self first and then for the district.
And like I said before, I never thought I would root for the Mustangs but after meeting you on the blog's I have developed a new respect for yall (untill we play each other)LOL
Go Sweetwater, play like a champion!!!!!!!"

And finally,

"Two great programs. Two great schools. Looking forward to this one. I am a MHS graduate, so my blood runs green. My family and I have been away from West Texas for about 12 years. We now reside in southeast Texas where High School football is big. My children attended class 4A Port Neches Groves High school and were active in sports, etc. PNGHS has a fan following like no other in Texas. My son played in the State game against Stephenville in 1999 where 34,000 PNGHS fans were in attendance. However, my comment is this: There is nothing equivalent to WEST TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL. The traditions, rivalries, etc. RESPECT for the opposing team is taught and practiced by the majority of the towns out west. I try to explain to friends and co-workers here the atmosphere, excitement, and FUN that is WEST TEXAS FOOTBALL. From class 5A to 6 man, it is simply a way of life in WEST TEXAS. A game like what is on the menu this week in Midland is unexplainable. It will be super charged. For those who talk trash about the game, they are probably the ones who have not had a kid play or they just can't see the big picture. When these student bodies put in the long hours of practice, be it football, band, cheerleading, etc. it is to be appreciated. As a parent I have seen the glory days as well as the times when my son and daughter would put everything that they had into a day of practice and come home give out and wondering if it was worth it. Our kids who are active in their respective schools are not couch potatoes and I sometimes wonder how they fit it all in. Monahans and Sweetwater deserve to be at this point in the season and hopefully each community will RESPECT the accompolishments of the opposing school. I know that the coaches and teams will; win or loose. Don't take WEST TEXAS athletic programs for granted. They are the BEST in TEXAS because of the teachers, coaches, and communities that know what LIFE is about."

The first poster who said Monahans has no problem stopping the run needs to look at the Oddesa American. Colin Jones racked up 233 yards rushing on them. Bridgeport had 503 total yards against them.

I stand corrected!! Yes, Bridgeport did have 503 Total Yards, but more than half of those yards were from passing (262). Speaking in general, Monahans has never had any problem stopping the run. I think Monahans did a wonderful job stopping the run against Bridgeport. And the reason, Bridgeport was not able to convert any of the 2 point conversions on the run (or passing). In my eyes "Stopping the run", (when it counted) won the game for Monahans. Sorry for the misleading information!!

Hats off to the ex mean Green Machine. Win loose or draw we should all be proud of our communities as well as ones respective sports program. There's a great opportunity for learning this Friday in Midland. I hope that we as adults do our part with the teaching. I would love to see the Mustangs prevail, it could happen, with team unity and cohesiveness. Winning isn’t everything, but how you represent yourself and that uniform tells everything. Put it on the line and leave on the field.

I too agree, there's nothing like West Texas fottball or it's people.

Speaking of Snyder, whatever happened to Welton Cobb? He played for them around the mid-1970's. Great player.
