Have any of you ever been to Lindsay Texas? I have.
Lindsay is in the 1-A Eleven man state region finals this week. They will be playing Windhorst in Decatur this Friday at 7:30. If they get by Windhorst, they will be playing for a state championship the following week!!!!
Why am I so interested in Lindsay? Before I answer that, let me give you some history.
Remember my earlier story about Lubbock Estacado? Two players I forgot to mention were Larry and Garry Smith. Identical twins, and the best guys you would ever know. Me and the Smith twins used to play baseball on the same team in Pony League in Sweetwater. Sometimes the twins would spend the night over at their grandparents house on Neff St. right across the street from my house.
If we weren't playing baseball, we were doing something to entertain ourselves during the summer months that school was out. Lot's of times we would camp out in my back yard and tell ghost stories. We usually got tired of ghost stories pretty quickly, and we would just start telling jokes. Now one thing about the Smith twins...they were good sized kids. I remember we all got up one Saturday morning from camping out, and I opened a brand new box of Cap'n Crunch cereal. Larry poured him some ceral, then Garry. When it came time for me to pour some cereal, there wasn't any left!!!!!! LOL
Long story short, Larry is now the Principal at Lindsay High School. Larry and Garry were awesome football players at SHS. I saw Larry about a year ago at Lindsay High School....I had a chance to visit and have lunch. Turns out, Larry remembered that box of Cap'n Crunch, so he bought lunch that day. (smile)
Good luck Mr. Smith...and Go KNIGHTS!!!!!!!!

Do you know what Garry is now doing? Also, I remember Johnnie Moore. That really was a great team. I was in the 6th grade. Our goal was to be a Mustang some day and to walk down that road into the bowl.
