Mustangs ground the Eagles!

September 22, 2006 will go down as one of the most exciting games in Mustang history. Not only was it yours truly's birthday, the Mustangs had to travel to the dreaded Canyon to play one of the best teams in the state.
Oh sure, Cuero beat Liberty Hill, (as I predicted) and there were some other great games out there, but from the Mustangs view, this game was huge.
Canyon had the awesome QB Ramos and a spread offense that seems to be the new rage in high school football. Canyon had dismantled teams along the way this season with a passing attack that was seemingly indefensable. Frankly, I had Canyon ranked as the best team in west Texas in my Pony Express poll. http://www.getphpbb.com/phpbb/portal.php?mforum=mustangmadness
Skye Green, who tried to do his best Leon Lett impression, had 16 carries for 125 yards and two big touchdowns. (of course all of the Mustang's touchdowns were huge.)
Duone Cunnings had a touchdown and played absolutely great in spite of getting banged up. Joseph Banyard also had a touchdown and showed signes of the Batman personna that was evident last year of just not taking any gruff from defenders and running over them.
I think the offensive line is the unsung hero here on offense. They absolutely created running lanes for the backs, and continue to improve by the minute.
What can I say about the Mustang Defense? I can't. I am so impressed with the way the defense shut down one of the best offenses in the state of Texas. I will report further on this side of the ball once details become available. For now, I'm just going to call the defense, the Red Sea....they simply covered up Canyon's offense and wouldn't let them see daylight.....just an awesome game Mustangs! Thanks for the great birthday gift!
