Mustangs 20, Argyle 14
Hey, a win is a win baby.......
Before we think that there was anything the Mustangs did wrong, let's first of all congratulate the Argyle Eagles for a game well played and coached.
The 20-14 Mustang victory can certainly be appreciated by the Mustang nation.
It seemed like it was going to be a Mustang night when Joseph "Batman" Banyard returned an interception for 70 yards for a touchdown. What I didn't count on was that wouldn't phase Argyle one bit, as they took the ensuing kickoff and promply drove the ball some 80 yards for their initial touchdown..with not a single rush...they were all passes. This looked like this was going to be a strange game from that point on.
For the record....the Mustangs had 3 turnovers, and missed about 4 good interceptions. In a normal world, the Mustangs would have won this game by 3 touchdowns at least, but who says this season has been normal?
To the Mustangs credit, I liked having Skye Greene split wide and in passing patterns. I thought the Mustang coaching staff did an excellent job sprinkling in some new pass patterns. One pass play actually went for a touchdown to Justin Adames. It was a great call.
To the credit of the Argyle defense, they loaded the box with defensive linemen, and penetrated the offensive line of the Mustangs and were in the backfield to stop alot of the Mustang's sweeps. Their defensive line continually outnumbered the Mustang line and got penetration simply by having a larger mass of bodies on the line of scrimmage. Not a bad tactic.
To the credit of the Mustang coaches...they came out in the second half and spread the line out...and the Mustangs were able to move the ball much better.
There were some questionable penalties, but I guess that happens...but it sure seemed the Mustangs had an unusual amount go against them.
The bottom line is, the Mustangs live to fight another day. We should be thankful for that.

Sweetwater Stomps Breckenridge
Congrats to the Sweetwater Mustangs as they get the nod as the Division II representative for defeating the Breckenridge Buckaroos 35-0 tonight.
The Mustang ground game was instrumental again in controlling the scoreboard.
Skye Green led the attack with 4 rushes for 134 yards, highlighted by a 79 yard scamper. He had 3 touchdowns for the evening.
Joseph Banyard had an 8 yard score and the Mustangs went in at halftime with a 21-0 lead.
The second half saw the Mustangs continue the ground assault with Auston Davis scoring from 29 yards out and junior tailback Martin Williams making his mustang debut with a 20 yard score to close the scoring at 35-0.
The Mustang "bend but don't break" defense gave up some yardage but never allowed the Buckaroos to score. One of the halftime adjustments Coach Jackson made was put Joseph Banyard at safety to cut down on the sweeps that Breck tailback Roberson was able to gain on. It seemed to help a bit. Good game by Thomas Holsey and the rest of the pass defense in picking off a pass or two from Breck QB Vick.
Now the Mustangs play the winner of the Argyle/Sanger winner at Stephenville next Friday night.
