It's time to see RED!

Thank goodness it's Friday! It's time for the Red Sea to see RED!
Welcome to the beginning of Mustang football! The Mustangs travel to Wichita Falls to play the Coyotes and their fancy spread offense. The Coyotes do have a good team and they expect good things from them too. This should be an excellent game to see. I think our Mustangs are up for the challenge. It's time to earn a little respect anyway. I mean it's not like the Mustangs are ranked # 3 in the state are we?
Obviously, the Coyotes will be slinging the ball alot. The Mustangs will be trying to gain yards on the ground and eat up the clock and keep that Coyote offense on the side line. It should be a good game. Let's go RED... time for some respect, and lets start getting noticed tonight!

8-24-2007 Vernon Scrimmage
Thanks again to Kevin (Spinnr1) of the Pony Express for his great write-up and pictures of the scrimmage between the Mustangs and Vernon. Here is his report:
The free play period went as follows.
The Lions got the ball first and put together a long slow drive eating a large chunk of the clock. they fumbled the ball awith about 6:00 on the clock. The Mustangs started kind of slow getting a false start called right out of the gate. Sweetwater punted the ball awith 4:00 on the clock, a high short kick which I have come to expect out of our punt team at times. Vernon took over at about 3:31 on our side of the field and drove to the redzone followed by a Qb scramble for 6 at 2:03 the Stangs took over and had a couple good plays Namely back to back runs from Steven Fields, and Auston Davis respectively. the stangs got inside the Lions 35 with 53 seconds left and ran a couple plays that ate at the clock. finally throwing a pass from Zach Birdwell to KeKe Wallace that landed us on the goal line (I say he landed in the end zone but I was not a ref) with 3 seconds left we lofted a pass to KeKe Wallace again just out of bounds
Photos are coming.

Random thoughts about Saturday's scrimmage
Just going through and reading some different entries from the Pony Express about last Saturday's Mustangs scrimmage.
From our old pal Jay Laughlin:
"Yeah, scores tell very little in a scrimmage. How they hit, react, read on defense and how they seem to absorb the defense. Several other factors are more import this early. Anyway, thanks for the report. Thanks again."
And this from Go Big Red:
"As long as they are coming together as a team the score isn't important. If the starters appeared to have been pushed all over the field then it may have been a different matter. Sounds like all went well. Stay dry! Another hurricane in the gulf which will eventually blow through the area with more rain."
I think fans can thank the coaching staff once again for getting the Mustangs prepared for the season. I can't wait.

Two-A-Days
The Sweetwater Mustangs are working hard folks. It won't take long in this heat and with two-a- days to get in shape. I think everyone knows there is alot of work to be done. Here are some photos that Kevin (Spinnr1) of the Pony Express took recently of the torture that are the two-a- days.

Saturday's Scrimmage
I got this update on the Saturday Scrimmage for 8/18 from Spinnr.
Thanks to Kevin!
Well I got there late... missed the whole show... I decided not to go because I was elbow deep in some work, and when I got some time away, I went and got there what I was told is about the time the scrimmage started. so I got on a hat that would keep me warm in the rain and booked it to the bowl... I ran through the rain to my seat and when I sat down I saw like five plays and then they huddled up together, gave all the kids a talk and left
it was pouring down the bowl looked like a lake. The kids were having a blast being out there. I saw a great run by Martin WIlliams for about 20 yards. But a couple plays later I noticed Blades helping him limp to the training table. after the kids left the field I sat there getting rained (AND I MEAN RAINEDDDDD) on. I was obviously upset about missing the whole tthing, but I stopped a guy and asked him what he thought, he said "the guys looked REALLY good." that's an exact quote. sorry no pics cause of the pouring down rain.
I also went out to the lake to see how the recent rain has affected it. and I am glad to report that when I got there they had blocked off a couple of the lake roads due to it being WAY over the road. and at the boat ramp some of the water is touching the very edge of some people's boat docks.

Hello 2007 Sweetwater Mustangs!!!
Howdy Mustangs and Mustang fans!!!!!!!!
It's time for some football! Time for another edition of Sweetwater Mustang football. It seems like only a few weeks ago we were watching Joseph Banyard, Skye Green, Duone Cunnings, Justin Adames and all the rest of the Stangs head for the playoffs. And of course all of North America knows those young men have graduated and gone on to bigger and better things. So what happens now?
Well, if you listen to all of the experts on various bulletin boards around the state, no one is giving the Mustangs too much credit to come back this year and be a decent team. I challenge that notion today. I have a lot to learn about the Mustangs, but I would be willing to bet a doughnut that Coach Jackson and his staff will do everything possible to get this team ready for this season. And by the way, aren't we fortunate to have such a good coaching staff at Sweetwater? It isn't every day a coach and his staff gets asked to coach the Texas High School Coaches Association North VS. South game. But Coach Jackson and his staff were the coaches for north Texas in Fort Worth's Amon Carter Stadium a few weeks back. Great job by the entire staff. You certainly made us proud!
Now on to two-a-days!
The Mustangs have been working hard in practice. They know they have much work to be done.
The new QB is Thomas Holsey, and like coach Jackson said Holsey would have been a starting QB on alot of teams last year. But that's ok, Holsey had a great year on defense for the Mustangs last year. I understand he has a good arm too!

Practice is practice, and as I mentioned previously, there is lots of work to accomplish because the end of August is fast approaching! Stay tuned and fasten your seat belts, cause there is a Mustang Stampede about to hit!
Come join the Pony Express!
