SCRIMMAGE SPEAK
Just in case you missed this on mackbrown-texasfootball.com, here are Colt McCoy's comments about this past weekend's scrimmage (mb-tf.com photo is from March 3 scrimmage as well).
On what he liked about the scrimmage: I thought we did great. I thought the offensive line has come a long way. We still have a lot of work to do, but I was impressed with the way they played together, the way the offense played together, and the defense played great too. Overall, there is a lot of intensity and that’s what you’re looking for.
On the running game: Jamaal [Charles] looked great. He looked like a new guy out there today, but that’s also the offensive line out there blocking for him. If we can open up this running game, then the passing game will be fine.
On if the Alamo Bowl win has carried over to the spring: A lot of it has. We wanted to go in there and win the game because we had lost two in a row. Being able to win that last game is kind of a steppingstone for us right now. We are building off of that, but we still have to keep getting better every day.
On if intensity has picked up: It definitely has. Today we started a little bit slow, but we finished strong. I feel like we’re looking good for where we are right now.
On practicing in the stadium with the north end zone being gone: The wind definitely blows a lot harder right now without the north end. It works out. I thought we really looked good, and that the coaches called some really good plays to kind of game plan the defense a little bit. It was fun.
On John Chiles and Sherrod Harris: John and Sherrod are doing great. They both look good. They threw the ball well today, and John made a few runs that were pretty nice. They’re really coming along.
On who is dictating the tempo: Usually the defense can take it to the offense in the spring. They're really not game planning and blitzing as much. They’re going to start blitzing this week and we’re really going to have to be on top of our game. The offensive line is really going to have to step up, because now they’re going to show all of their looks. We’ll see what happens next week.
On which players are standing out: Chris Ogbonnaya is doing a great job. Jamaal is getting a lot of carries, but when Chris comes in there, he’s really creating some out routes. He’s doing a great job carrying the football.
On Jamaal Charles: He’s definitely working hard in the weight room. We’ve been working together for a long time. We’ve been staying in afterwards and working out together. He has really put on a lot of weight. He looks like a new man.
