DRINK UP

You may have seen this week's issue of Sports Illustrated where Case Keenum and Taylor Potts are on the same page. Nice write-up about Abilene Wylie's Keenum.

The editors missed the whole "what's-in-the-water-out-there?" point, though, and didn't mention that Potts was also from Abilene or that Colt McCoy was from a town just a dozen miles down the road. I think this is a big story.

But, I digress.

Right now, it's Longhorns vs. Raiders - McCoy vs. Potts - in just a couple of days. A nationally televisied audience on ABC at 7 p.m. is going to be treated to one fine college football game.

I've heard the media talk a lot about "revenge," but I don't see that coming out of Austin. I also don't see any "we'll get you again this year" talk coming out of Lubbock.

There could be a bit of "redemption" talk in the air, however. Potts is going to have to deal with UT safeties Blake Gideon and Earl Thomas. You may recall those names. Gideon is the one who dropped what would have been a clinching pick against the Red Raiders last season, and Thomas got beat by Crabtree for the game winner.

I am surprised that Texas has been favored by 16 and a half points. I think it will be closer than that.

And I don't think Nate Newton's son Tre' will have the same success against the Red Raiders he had against Wyoming. But I do believe there will be just about as many points scored this year as last (72 in 2008).

For you factoiders out there, this is also the earliest Texas and Tech have played each other since 1955. It was moved up, of course, because of the prime-time drama it is expected to provide.

Lock the door and turn off your cell phone. You don't want to be interrupted during this one!
