It's do or die time

Well, well, well. It’s been a while since my last post and a lot has happened since then. Ups, downs, wins, losses… pretty much everything. Instead of recapping everything that has gone on up until now, I figured I would just look at where the Coogs are now and where they are headed.

Right now, Cooper is 1-1 in district play which puts them in a tie for third with Midland High. Now, guess who Cooper plays this Friday night? As fate would have it, the Coogs will welcome the Dawgs to Shotwell in a game that will more than likely decide the fate of both teams. You can look at this game any way you want but there is one simple truth that remains… the winner sits in the driver’s seat for the playoffs, the loser does not. There are a lot of things that can happen between now and the end of the regular season, but odds are pretty good that the loser of this game will be playing basketball a lot sooner than they want.

Midland will bring a very good team to Shotwell Friday night. The Dawgs are 6-1 on the season with their lone loss coming to state ranked Abilene High in a 52-14 blowout. Before you get too excited though… Abilene High is good… VERY good. Nobody should look at that final score and think they are going to whip up on Midland. At the same time, nobody should look at the Coogs’ 61-7 slaughter of Odessa and think that Cooper is going to roll over anybody. The games are still played on the field, and on that field, Cooper will have to deal with two very dangerous QBs, a multitude of slippery WRs and a RB that can kill you in the open field. Midland can expect to see a fired up bunch of Cougars coming off what can only be described as a dominating performance the previous week. In that game against Odessa, everything was clicking for the Coogs. Chris Hall was close to perfect throwing the ball, Demetrius Gore and Jerry Harper were constant threats running the ball, the offensive line spent the night pushing around a much bigger team in red and the defense pretty much had their way with the Odessa offense. All that will need to be repeated if the Coogs want to be in that driver’s seat after Friday night.

God Bless and GO COOGS!!!

It might seem to me like the reason you were too busy to not write you blog is because your sorry cooper cougars have been losing. I wonder if that's the reason...hmm?
