WE AREN'T SCARED!!

As I was looking at the picks for the Regional round of the playoffs throughout the state, and I came across one that I totally disagree with. The Abilene High vs. DeSoto game. According to those guys, DeSoto wins. They based that on our pre-district schedule. But here is the key that not a lot of the guys who get paid to pick the playoffs know: We are BETTER than we were back in September. We are playing a much smarter, physical ballgame now. Last week against Tascosa we put all four quarters together and look how it turned out. I told everybody that the Warbirds would be dangerous when we reached our full potential. Last week was a great win for us, and will give us the momentum to soar past DeSoto.

Our pre-district schedule put us in this position. We played those teams so we wouldn’t be scared to go up against a team like DeSoto. DeSoto averages out to be about 6’ and weighing in about 200 pounds in the skill positions. Each of those guys run about a 4.3 40. DeSoto also has offensive and defensive linemen that would make some colleges jealous. From the looks of the stats for DeSoto, they are a heavy run team. A couple of their guys hit the 1,000 yard mark in the regular season. That plays out in our favor. Our rushing D is one of the best in the state as far as I can tell. Weatherford and Tascosa both had great running ability and the Warbird D stopped them in their tracks. I look forward to seeing the same thing happening to DeSoto. On the defensive side of the ball there is a 6’ 3”, 225 pound senior that goes by the name of Von Miller. He plays lights out football. He is listed on the roster as a lineman, but don’t be surprised if we see him in the linebacker or possibly the safety position.

I have confidence in Coach Fullen and Coach Cox to have our boys prepared for this game. I look forward to seeing yet another great showing for the Abilene High Eagles. I expect a great crowd out there at Gordon Wood Stadium shouting loud and getting into the heads of the boys from DeSoto. Let’s get out there and knock some heads around. GO EAGLES!!
