It's Time For Some FOOTBALL!!!
Before the start of the 2006 season for the Abilene High Eagles bandwagon fans said, “This will be a rebuilding year. We lost too many good players.” Those first 4 games made it seem like they were right. But thanks to Coach Warren, his staff, the players, along with some determination, and backed by the Eagle faithful, AHS pulled away with an 8-5 record, a third straight District 3-5A Championship, and a trip to the Region 1 semifinals. And don’t forget about that 9 minute drive against Permian to win that district title. That certainly does not look like a “down” year to me. I was very happy with the way our guys came together throughout the season.
The 2007 season for the Eagles will be just a little different. There will not be a bunch of new faces on the field. AHS will return 10 starters from last year’s squad (6 on offense and 4 on defense). Those other positions will be filled by guys that saw a bunch of playing time last year. I do not see this as a down year at all (yes some people are still saying that). The bar has been set higher than it has ever been since Coach Warren took over.
Based on what I have heard from Coach Warren and seen on the field, this is going to be a fun year. Once again we have one of the toughest pre-district schedules in the state, but we have the poise to overcome this challenge set in front of us. I see a fourth straight 3-5A title sitting in the coach’s office once we defeat Odessa High to close out the regular season. As you can see, I have confidence in the ’07 Abilene High Eagles.
I hope to see all of you out at Shotwell for the GoFridayNight.com Classic which features some great games. To finish the Classic will be Austin Westlake vs. Abilene High. I look forward to seeing the start of some great memories for this Abilene High team.
