Early Longhorns 19 Eastland Mavericks 9

"Welcome, unbeaten Eastland Mavericks, to McDonald Field for the 2005 Early Homecoming. We'd like to introduce you to the Early Longhorn Football Team, version 2.005, have a nice drive home - you are now no longer, unbeaten."
In a hard-hitting, tough defensive battle, the Horn's exacted just a little revenge on the "previously" unbeaten Mavericks. Last year's game was decided by a field goal in the final minutes - this year's game was decided far earlier when the Horns went up 16 - 3 on the strength of Josh Conley's 4 yd run, and Brian Cochran's PAT, with 10:12 left in the 4th. More to come...
Congratulations to Bethany Hopkins - 2005 Homecoming Queen!

Maybe a 50 something year playoff drought makes you guys blind to the fact that being
"unbeaten" means nothing. Congrats, you WON your homecoming for the first time in a while. Get through district "unbeaten" and then you have something to talk about.
Yes, Early played well despite several Eastland turnovers and what I would say the worst officiated game I have seen in a while. It was a hard fought game which featured a tough Early defense, which I credit to Coach Luker and the defensive staff. However, Eastland has a good club and will do well after this one. Longhorn fans the road is going to get tough.

If the offense can ever match the defense Early will definantly break the playoff drought. In '91 we started off 3-1 only to finish 3-7. The district all of the sudden looks tough this year and I hope the guys can put it together all year long. Hookem Horns.

In light of the last 50 years or so, I'd say that the Early Longhorn fans are definitely not "blind"! In fact, Eastland does have a good ball club, just not good enough to beat the '05 Horns, and you're right, "unbeaten" doesn't mean much after all, does it. As far as officiating goes, Early was penalized a total of 57 yards to Eastland's 15, so what are you talking about, anyway. The biggest stat, aside from the points scored, is probably the total offense numbers - 159 yds for the Mavericks, only 1 chance in the red zone, and nothing to show for it. At any rate, we certainly wish our friends in Eastland well, we've helped train at least one of your coaches and continue to count you all as our friends and worthy competitors.

Please note: Some cowardly "person" has pirated the email address of an outstanding Eastland coach and posted comments under his name. So, please disregard the comments made by "brad".

Not having lived in Early for very many years I can only tell you that in the recent past as I watched games you got the feeling the team was waiting for that one bad thing to happen that would cause them to implode. This team has a totally different air about it. They show a mental toughness that may have been lacking in the past. When there is a turnover, missed TD, or a bad call there is no sense of 'Oh, No' about this team, but more a sense of 'We'll get that back in a minute' feeling about this team. We shall see in the near future if I'm right since they have a tough district schedule ahead with more games on the road than at home. I think this team is going to surprise a lot of people this year. Go Longhorns

Man another shutout, that is awesome. If our offense can get a bit more productive I would say that we go undefeated in a VERY TOUGH DISTRICT. I listened to the game on the radio at the Brownwood game last night. I couldn't even get into the game. We had family in and couldn't travel because of plans but you can bet I'll be in Ballinger in 2 weeks.
Please keep us updated on our injured boys. You are doing a great job on thr radio, and i love this blog, thank you.
