Only 120 hours till kickoff! District Play begins 9/29 – 7:30pm!

Open weeks…, well what can you say? They are useful, and productive, and helpful for healing and preparation, and boy are they long! At least we got it behind us early this year. Not much to report other than most of our injuries are healing. Several guys who’ve been sidelined with nagging injuries or just seeing limited action, will be back for the District opener against JimNed. The Indians have looked pretty impressive so far this year, sort of. They’ve won against Merkel and Eastland, but were soundly beaten by Breckenridge, who just barely got by winless Bangs 2 weeks ago. Before the season began, I felt that JimNed was the sleeper in our District and would advance to the playoffs in the #3 spot, behind Wall #2, and the Longhorns #1. (I’m still not convinced that Coleman is that strong despite their 3-0 record entering District play.) There are a lot of possibilities in this long District schedule, so it should be interesting.
By the way, don’t let the Clyde-Bangs score fool you. Clyde’s starting QB and #1 tackler, Wes Liles, only played during the 1st quarter. And as for JimNed, Eastland without Kerry Huitt is not a real contest. Should make this Friday’s game a lot of fun. I expect the Longhorns to score early and often. See you at the game. Don’t forget to bring your FM radio head-set, we’ll be broadcasting “in-stadium” all season long for out of town games.

I'm interested in seeing how we do this week. I don't think anyone in our district will be as tough as our predistrict was. We should go 7-0.

7-0 is certainly what's expected by most everyone. I'd also like to see some dominating performances this year, We've had some very good athletes in years past that were overlooked by even D-3 colleges because of lack of exposure. I think some of this year's squad of seniors could play on at least the D-3 level if not 1 or 2. Headlines generate that kind of exposure and dominating your opponent generates headlines. We currently have two guys from the class of '06 playing D-3 sports, with maybe one more in the spring, I'd like to see those numbers increase.
