Abilene: At Least Some of Us Have a Sense of Humor
By Sarah Carlson

The brains behind Monk's Coffee Shop, those converse-wearing hipsters who have likely incurred the wrath of the Chamber of Commerce, have released a new T-shirt style for the masses. The slogan "Only Abilene: What Happens Here, Leaves Here" should be on all signs at all entryways into the Key City. And on brochures.
"Keep Abilene Boring: Drink More Decaf" still makes me chuckle, but this new Vegas rip-off is all too accurate. (Not to mention a possible copyright infringement lawsuit waiting to happen. Am I right? I never read for my communication law class ...) Thanks for keeping me entertained, Monks. And well-caffeinated.

Monk's... hmmm... is it in the old "Abilene Coffee Company" location? If so, a lotta good memories. A friend and I used to play music there on the odd weekend. Sounds as though it's in better hands these days.

But you can still get VH-1. But even that sucks anymore.
Remember when VH-1 used to do the A-to-Z music video rundown on Memorial Day weekend back in the 90s? Then Viacom or some other evil entity took VH-1 away.
Now it shows things like "Charm School" and "Sucker Free."
I long for a return to the Bee Gees, REO Speedwagon and Elton John. Tears for Fears, too. Those videos were classics.
While I don't hate "New York" I would trade her for a return to the glory days of VH-1. Sinclair weeps, as do I.

Seen on a T-shirt in Mall of Abilene: "Happiness is Abilene, Texas in your rear view mirror."
