Bulldogs Ready To Battle For Playoff Spot

Going into the second full year as the head coach and athletic director for the Loraine Bulldogs, coach Jeffrey Stockton feels the time is now to move forward toward a playoff spot, something that has been missing for some time around Bulldog Country.
"This group of kids are real hungry," said Stockton. "They worked out on their own all summer long and for the most part came back in good physical shape. One of our kids came back with an additional 35 pounds of muscle on him. We have six seniors which a first also in several years. That gives us some leadership that has been missing for a few years also."
Twenty athletes reported on the first day of workouts on Monday, August 7th, but one has stepped down to become the manager.
Some of the kids that are standing out are tight end Jimmy Grissom, running back Derek Martinez, running back Zack Gibson, and end Miguel Acevedo. Newcomer Stefan Limones who transferred from Trent should be a welcome addition on defense while Marfa transfer Bevian Hermosillo jr. enters his senior year playing six-man football for the first time after a successful 11-man high school career. It is rumored he can kick field goals from 35 yards out which will be welcomed after losing some tight games in the past due to missed PAT's.
The Bulldogs will get in their only scheduled scrimmage in this Saturday when they travel to Aspermont to try out the Hornets with a 10 a.m. start time.
