525 and Counting
It is official, since my inception, 525 people have viewed my writings. I would like to think I have enlightened 525 people but we all know that I have logged onto this site from 525 different computers surrounding Abilene.
I would like to make the following statement: "I'm sorry" I may have used performance enhancing drugs to get me where I am at. Over the past couple of days my head has gotten bigger and my walk more swaggered. I have been irritable and in my dealings with the press, I may have been unapproachable.
The cost of chicken has risen 4% over the past year. The price of gas has now reached an all-time high and David Robinson's Hoops rookie card (the one holding the jersey) can be bought at Rick's Collectibles for $15.00. Something is wrong with this world. I paid $33.00 for that card in 7th grade and thought it was a deal.

Look at our new Sports Editor, he is quite the softball player

I was a poor baseball card collector...in hindsight I'm glad, but at the time it was a little embarrassing. I felt as if I didn't fit in with the other kids when baseball card discussions came up. I had little to contribute and the conversations were over my head.
Your D.Robinson reference reminded me of the best baseball card I had at the time. An Eric Davis Rookie Card. To this day I thought it was a rookie card, until I searched for it and found out that the 1985 Topps card that was shown on e-bay looked nothing like the card I purchased for $4. Turns out I had been sold Eric Davis' third year card...I guess the first two year statistics on the back of the card should have been a clue, but (like I said) I wasn't a very good at baseball cards.
I turned out okay, though...and when I'm in meetings where I have little to contribute and the conversation is over my head, I handle it better than my peers who agressively write notes and/or ask irrelavant questions...just like I did twenty years ago.

Steriods in sports is such a shame. But not for the reason most people cite. It's a shame because we are selectively choosing our outrage.
Everyone is clammering to vilify Barry Bonds, while turning a blind eye to guys like Shawne Merriman. It's all a crock. If we're going to wax poetic about fairness in sport, apply the logic to all sports. Why not throw a fit when all-pro defensive ends amass insane sack totals, then fail a test? Is that somehow better, or more understandable, than McGwire or Bonds' homerun totals growing?
Are roids bad? Sure. Should users be punished? Yes. Are we approaching all users with equal disdain? Not even close.
Who thought we'd see the day when Jose Canseco was the voice of reason in this discussion? Glad that I held on to all of his rookie cards.

You made the top banner of the main page. Your girls must be proud.
I have a Barry Sanders rookie card. It has plummeted in value over the last 10 years. Fear not, though, it is still protected in a plastic case. You never know when the 1989 Score set will skyrocket in value again.

Moving forward, I would like to make it known that any and all Mark McGwire comments will be reviewed with the highest scrutiny.
