Drama in Abilene
So did you hear about this kid that had his face on a billboard and was arrested on suspicion of murder? Talk about bad luck
McMurry has been trying hard the past couple of months to get the word out about the new tablet PCs
they will be handing out to all incoming freshmen. I think it's a fabulous idea.
I also think that putting the face of a student on a billboard is an effective marketing tool that blew up in their face. I just don't think they should have it held against them.
I know that when I see pictures of girls on the Pregnancy Resources billboard or the herpes commercial, I never think those people really have herpes.
I didn't go to McMurry or all of a sudden become a McMurry apologist, but ALL universities in Abilene have had something similar to this blow up in their face.

What's so great about tablet PCs for all incoming freshmen? Most of the kids today have an above-average understanding of computers. Why not invest the money in a capstone program that brings real value to the table...something like a mandatory money management course.
5k, 10k, 20k in credit card debt. Within a few years of graduation, most college graduates are swimming in debt. Why don't we spend a little less time and money encouraging them to utilize technology that they are already obsessed with, and a little more time teaching them financial planning skills and how to prepare for their futures.
Afterall, they won't have Social Security to fall back on...
