The Baron of Davis
Who was Baron Davis before the playoffs?
a. The pilot of a an old plane
b. The guy from another country who recently came into a large sum of cash and wants to give it to you
c. The name of a horse at the Derby
After the playoffs started? He could be the most important person on the Warriors.
A friend of mine said that if Baron Davis wasn't on the court, the other Warrior players would just wander off the court and start to eat a fan's food.
Until last night, I would have laughed at that statement. The dunk that made the highlight reels was embarrassing.
P.S. Dirk was the best player in the NBA DURING the season. I feel bad that because he had such a poor showing in the playoffs he will never get accepted into the elite player society, like his old teammate did.
I miss Nellie. I can't help it. I love The Little General, but Nellie always had a trick. Don Nelson and Jimmy Johnson, you knew there was a chance as long as they were coaching the game.
A friend of mine wrote this article and I thought it was well done. Click here.

Nellie is a great coach, but the Mavs are better off with Avery. The style that Nellie plays relies too much on "the hot hand." When your players are on fire...like they were in the Dallas series...it's a tough style to defend. A direct consequence is that the style that people refer to as "up and down," produces equally "up and down" results.
Avery is working to build something in Dallas. He's trying to build a team and teach a style of play that can translate to long-term success.
Is Dirk the guy to lead the team to that success...maybe. I'd be lying if I didn't have doubts after his performance during the 2007 Playoffs. But let's not forget his stellar performance in the 2006 Playoffs.
We're far too quick to label a guy "great" or as a "bust." We killed Peyton Manning for pressing in the playoffs and failing to win the big game...now those of us who said those things look stupid. As a Mavs fan, I hope that it won't be long before Dirk pulls a Manning and proves his critics wrong.

Kril,
I think you're right but I am a "please-me" now type of fan. The happiest thing for me would be if Dirk proved everyone wrong. I think against any other team it would have been a different story.
