5 Reasons I Hate Monday Night Football

I have been holding my tongue on this long enough.

I hate listening to Monday Night Football.

Here is why:

1. Tony Kornheiser
Who does this guy think he is? Remember that short stint that Dennis Miller had on MNF. Get ready because Kornheiser is exactly the same color or whatever guy. His points are laughable at best. Last night he retold the same story Pam Oliver told and then passed it off as his own. He annoys me and I watch the game on mute because of him and the other 4 reasons

2. The Reporter on the Field
Who Cares? I don't care, my wife doesn't care and what do they need to be on the field for? There are no less than 15 guys on the field with those huge half spheres catching sound from the field. I'm sure we could gather more information from what they are recording verses whatever pretty lady they put on the field. Not saying she’s not competent enough but her skills are far superior to telling us that when we see a guy limp off field and watch him go back to the locker room, they make sure we know they went back to the locker room.

3. Halftime
SWAMI! I get it, he was the guy who made ESPN what it was. However (in my best Stephen A. Smith voice) his commentary is so far out there with these knick-nack patty whack names he comes with (two can play that) His little WHOP! noise is over used and annoying. I wish they would just run the fastest 3 minutes in a minute in a half and then turn the camera on in the booth to see those guys glad handing each other for how many "feel good stories" they could work in.

4. Every Game is not competitive
They are the worst at trying to sell a game. These guys do everything they can to walk the fine line in not going for one side or the other. Its crap. I'm sure there is some journalistic code they must abide by but seriously, if the Patriots are playing Baltimore, don't try to tell me its a close game before it starts. 17 point underdogs at home. As the game wears on they are consistent reiterating the point that this 4-7 Baltimore team is good. McGhee is the best back in the league? Please. $20.00 says they take showers and brush their teeth till their gums bleed after they get back to the hotels from all the filth they just said.

5. ESPN
I watch it every day and am more amazed at how they push their products on me and manufacture events. They are getting away from what made them great and that disappoints me. I wish they got back to sports, stop pushing Disney published books, Buena Vista Movies, Disneyland Weekend and Sunday Bowling. Just put on TV what I care about. MTV is just as bad, for the next two days there are no videos, just America Next Top Model, A Shot at love with Tila Tequila and The Hills.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL was great when it was football, now its a production, the games suck unless they have Dallas or the Patriots. I think they are kicking themselves for putting MNF on ESPN and have to ride it out.

Just make it watchable again please.

A little cranky aren't we?

Just frustrated with all the bells and whistles. I want just the meat, not the sides.

1. He's bad, but not AS BAD as Dennis Miller.
2. Dickerson was the best/worst sideline reporter EVER.
3. Agreed.
4. The major networks will always get the better games. As it should be.
5. Mickey Mouse has ruined ESPN.

MNF is losing relevance to Sunday Night Football. That's the work of Madden, and a sweet deal that NBC inked with the league (able to move the "best" games to primetime).

Love you, Mayo.

Nice thoughts James, I agree with you. MNF is not the same as it first was with "Dandy" Don Meredith--Dallas Cowboys, Frank Gifford--New York Giants and Howard Cosell--Attorney. If the game was lousy, you could always depend on Meredith to come up with says like "if if's and buts were candy and nuts, we would all have a Merry Christmas". Now that's a saying to remember.
Or the time Howard invited John Lennon (Beatles) to come into the booth and talk about his life---which he lost tragically before the year was out. So James, sometimes the game isn't relevant, and sometimes the guests are. At any rate, its football--not life. Yes, Dallas always gets the biggest ratings when the are on--Tex Schramm and Landry are responsible for that---and dont forget, they were the first team to have cheerleaders (I have the first poster). They are always exciting even when they have blown a season. New England is interesting because they are currently winning--once Brady is gone or hurt, the interest will wane. But give me the days of Unitas, Staubach, George Blanda (google him), Landry, Lombardi, George Allen, Joe Namath, Bob Hayes, etc. They may have been on or coached losing teams, but they made the game exciting---not only on MNF, but every other Sunday.

I agree also, the sideline interviews are useless---nuf said.

I will give you a piece of trivia to contemplate. Wade Phillips was born in Orange, Texas within a year of myself. Just thought you would want to know. His father (Bum) also born in the region is close friends with Betty and Polly's Dad.

James,
I think if we could somehow get Tila Tequila to do the sideline reporting we could somehow bring back the integrity to MNF. Are you OK? I agree with anonymous, you sound a teensy bit cranky, don't make me poke you!!!

I totally agree with you and I doubt it's chance that Tony is first on your list. I created this Blog:

because ESPN's MNF sucks so bad!

WHEN will ESPN realize that they have ruined MNF?

My hsband complains so much that i won't let him listen to it. He can watch but he complains so voriciously that I can't stand it.

ESPN is loosing gross impressions because people can't stand to hear these terrible announcers.

they are the cheapest broadacsters in the country.
