The More You Know . . .

In case many of you didn't know, today is the most special day in a man's life. A day when all your hard work as man is finally realized in one moment of exhiliaration

This day represents everything that is good about people and things and I am so proud that I have it to remember

My wife will say that I very predictable when I write like this because today is our anniversary and we have been married 7 wonderful years.

She would be right.

Because I was going to take the long way to say that here is how it would have played out.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
In case many of you don't know today is a very special day for me and my family. On this day, the world stopped and a blessed union was created forever in the eyes of millions.

Many people from their youth collected things. I collected baseball cards and limited comics. Yes comics. Baseball cards were what I spent every penny I had on from the years 1986-1992. I loved them. To symbolize the event I decided in Maryland that I would choose one player to be my favorite. I would collect every single card of theirs and pray that they would be great. Remember this was 1986. So i began collecting. His rookie year was amazing. Who would have known in 1987 he hit 49 homeruns. Why did he hit only 49 homeruns, because he took the last 3 days of the season off to be at the birth of his son, Matt.

Fast forward to September 8th, 1998

I can recount this day for obvious reasons or contractually obligated reasons, I prefer obvious.

I was in my 3 hour Sales class that took place on Thursday night at ACU. I was not too attentive because I had perfectly timed out the break we got in this class to running home and turning on the TV. So when this break came, I actually ran back to University Park Apartments to flip on the old Boob tube and watch ESPN. The cubs were playing away. The score was something to something and Sosa was standing in the outfield looking as attentive as ever.

It was the bottom of the third inning and there was one out. Mark McGwire takes his place up to bat and gets a ball and then a strike. On the third pitch he faced, at 9:18 Eastern time, McGwire swung at an inside pitch and took it over the left field fence. Number 62. What a day!

The number games you can play with this are staggering because I post them yearly but once again I will do because of the perfectness of this feat. There could be no better situation for this feat. Lets review
1. At Home
2. Mark's son Matt is the bat boy (written into his contract for days he has his kid)
3. They are playing the team who has Marks closest rival in homeruns
4. The Maris family is in attendance (staged by MLB, i know)
5. Earlier before the game Mark held the bat that hit 61
6. At 9:18 on September 8, 1998 McGwire hits a home run
7. Doing numeralology you will see that 9:18, 9/8/1998 = 62.

I think that is pretty incredible.

Also 7 years ago today I married the greatest woman I have ever known.
