Diets are like Pulling Teeth
Time for the update on the status of the dumbest thing I ever committed too.
Seriously who did I think I was kidding? I have become a yo-yo in this weight loss gig.
However, I have the answer to all my prayers

* * * THE SKY IS FALLING ! ! ! * * *
UIL realignment just kicked Abilene in the butt.
If you are not familiar with UIL Realignment, I will do my best to explain it to you in my own way.
The UIL Realignment committee re-evaluated the enrollment numbers in the Texas I am guessing?

POLITICS SUCK (and so does Eli)
Ha ha ha
Politics do suck. I think I have learned over the course of my many years that political parties are dumb and people that vote a straight ticket are irresponsible voters.
also Eli Manning is not good at football.

Now it Begins
I have not written in a long time. Mostly because I am lazy and several posts I do write I decide not to publish because they are somewhat lame.
I mean are you interested in how NWA was responsible for some of the most successful rappers of all-time?
These past few weeks we have been working on some new things at the paper that I want to let you in on. . .

Turn this Mutha Out
Yep, its old school MC Hammer time. For those who don't know, you will need to turn the volume up real loud. Also, through out this post I will use as many MC Hammer songs as I can remember. They will not be denoted, so please post your answer in your comment.
I have had my eyes opened to some interesting information and I want to pass it on to you, the faithful reader.

Into the Mystic
Van Morrison has always been one of my favorite artists. he can write, he can sing and his songs can found in some very famous movies.

Many of you remember this great flick with "The Corey's" in it.

Stream of Consciousness
15 days and no posting.
15 days and no sleep
In 15 days the Brownwood Festival will begin
In 15 days and my friend will be married a month. The one whose bachelor party I attended and turned into a 5 part series so I would have something to write about.

Calling It In
I was rereading my last post and thought since my picture was on the leaderboard today, I couldn't feel good with myself if I did not write a different post.
We used to have this saying when I was working for the largest Marketer of Food in North America about "calling in" orders.
The other day I called collect and they did not accept the charges

Web Log Fever
Here is the geek coming out of me. Several of you might say that it's been pretty apparent for a long time, so why have I just noticed it.
To those I say "all your base belong to us."
Web 2.0. It’s out there. I'm part of it, and so is most of the world. Marketing people wouldn't be doing their jobs if there wasn't a clever name to describe it - (like Gen-Xers, or my favorite, "baby boomers.")

Why I love Abilene
Its July 4. In the big city there were about 8 different places to go see fireworks. In Abilene there's 1. Its great to get the whole city out together and celebrate this wonderful day. Ok, that sounded sappy. But it is neat to know that there were 10,000 people at Nelson Park watching fireworks. The old Wal-mart building finally had people in its parking lot and the police officers on bikes made everyone feel safe.
I myself may have parked illegally but we'll never know.

Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing
Completely have no idea what that book was about but I remember the bitter rivalry I set up between Beverly Clearly and Judy Blume. Who was I going to read? Mitch and Amy or Super Fudge? "Are There God its Me, Margaret?" or "Ramona Forever."
Random, but I was thinking about that this weekend, why did I read and especially those books.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I have held off long enough on the sports talk because this is eating at me, Stephen A. Smith ...

Day Two at the Important News
It's day two of the new position, and it's very different than what I was doing. First of all, there is not a bulk coffee machine in Circulation. I drink coffee like it's in my job description, and the past two days I have been jonesing for some quality newspaper coffee. I will solve this problem tomorrow.
Circulation is fascinating. So many things to get your hands into.

Lots of things ending today
OK, for those of you who do not know, today is my last day as James from Sales. Starting on Monday, it will be James from Circulation.
Now this will not change too much from my interaction with you, except I might begin to plug functions that I will be attending and all the drama that follows.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people I have worked with in the Advertising area; the graphic designers (Dawn and Warren), the assistants who would not let me make any mistakes (Brenda, Penny, Mindy, Schivon, Jeri and Shelia). I would love to take this opportunity and thank Kim Nussbaum and Paula Fiel. Kim Nussbaum interviewed me several times before passing me on to my current manager Paula Fiel. I thank her for giving me a chance to work for the Reporter-News, and I will not ever forget that. Paula Fiel offered me a job that I didn't even interview for. I thought she was very convincing and she was right, it would be a wonderful opportunity. She made sure to point out little things I may have said incorrectly or how to better present to my customers. She was never shy about wanting to get in front of my customers with me and would always brainstorm new ideas. I will miss that.

Left at the Altar
The analogies that people use to describe situations are laughable to me. The Orlando Magic have been left at the altar. Billy Donovan wants to stay.
These people need to get over themselves. Billy needs to man up and face the decision he made; he signed a contract. The Orlando Magic need to quit walking around with their heads down kicking up dirt.
To create an analogy, I would say that ...

Old School Water Balloon Fight
Last Wednesday, or a week from yesterday, I was in an intense water balloon fight. The sad part is it was instigated by me and another friend. I am part of four couples who teach a class on Wednesday, enriching our youth.
We took them to Jacob's Dream (the new statue at ACU) and proceeded to play Frisbee and genuine fellowship. Then we decided to play some games. After the games we took pictures, on the statue. This was our chance. How many times do you get to sneak up on freshmen in high school and drown them in about 64 water balloons? That's what we thought as well.
So to help with my story, I have included this illustration of the scenario. My graphic artist skills are very "weak sauce."

Silly Tease
I said I was going to write about Discount Tire, I lied. Something more entertaining has emerged. My love for professional sports is large; large enough to make this blog space about sports sometimes or about things that I find fault or humor with. That would be the Rangers, but I will move on.
One of the great things about having a blog is not only the ability to have a medium in which I can discuss my opinion, views and take certain stances on (at this time I would like to say that all opinions expressed on this site are entirely my own and definitely do not reflect the thoughts and opinion of the Abilene Reporter-News, E.W. Scripps or our business partners). Whew, had to get that out of the way before the site went down.
You may have probably guessed that I have no formal journalism training. There is usually not a coherent thought in my writings, just a bunch of gibberish and photos, with many run-on sentences or mispunctuations.
TOUGH, that's my fault and I don't apologize for it. I can also tell you that when we had the TAAS test, I scored a 5 in writing. That's right a 5. I was the only person in our school that year to do so. You want the secret. I love formulas: Introduction, 3 well developed points (2 pros and 1 con). Always put false percentages (and quotes) and a conclusion reiterating your topic sentence.
Moving on ...

Drama in Abilene
So did you hear about this kid that had his face on a billboard and was arrested on suspicion of murder? Talk about bad luck
McMurry has been trying hard the past couple of months to get the word out about the new tablet PCs
they will be handing out to all incoming freshmen. I think it's a fabulous idea.
I also think that putting the face of a student on a billboard is an effective marketing tool that blew up in their face. I just don't think they should have it held against them.
I know that when I see pictures of girls on the Pregnancy Resources billboard or the herpes commercial, I never think those people really have herpes.
