WEEK ONE IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR

I mentioned a couple of blogs ago that there were some games I would be interested in the outcome in WEEK ONE. If you had told me that after two games Ira and Valley would both be win less I don't think I would have thought that was possible. That is shallow on my part because anything is possible in high school football maybe especially so in Six-Man.
Ira after dropping their first game to Throckmorton at the Hico Super Six had to turn around and face Highland who had just moved into the #1 team in the state in Division 2. Highland made good on their ranking by beating Ira 36-30.
Valley also dropped their first game of the season to Gordon by the score of 60-38 at Hico. They were on the road again this time to face Northside. The Indians of Northside after making the move from Division 2 to Division 1 were ranked #10 in the state one position behind Valley. Northside came out on top by the score of 61-55.
Meadow and Grady caught the attention of my eye because they entered their contest this week ranked #17 and #15 respectively. Number 17 Meadow prevailed 70-20 though Grady was favored by 8. Meadow and Grady were both preseason picks to make the playoffs.
Rule and Knox City intrigued me because both programs have new head coaches. This is a Division 1 and Division 2 match up. As I have stated early and often, these match ups usually go to the Division 1 team and they usually are ugly. Not so this particular game as Rule, the Division 2 school, came out on top by 50-26. Knox City was actually a 45 point underdog to Rule. No one likes losing. No one wants to accept losing as a good thing. With that said, I believe the Knox City faithful are pleased even though they came out on the short end in this game.
In retrospect, the game between Woodson and Newcastle was worth looking at simply because Woodson went through a coaching change between WEEK ZERO and WEEK ONE. Under their new head coach Woodson rallied in the second half to win by the score of 55-44.
There will be more dribble to follow. Thanks for reading.
