Brownwood: Shannon Bumpas
Age: 17
Event: Poetry Interpretation
How long you’ve been competing: I have been competing for 3 years.
What’s the most challenging/nerve-wracking thing about your event: The most challenging part about my event is reading my piece because the number of people in a room watching ranges from eight to fifty (in some finals’ rooms). I can be a little bit spastic, but I usually take the nervous energy and channel it into my piece.
First thing you’ll do when you win: The first thing I would do if I won would be to gasp. After that, I would probably squeal.
Past honors in the event: My sophomore year I was alternate to region. Last year I didn’t compete in poetry interpretation at district.
Extracurricular activities/other UIL events: I have also competed in ready writing and journalism events in UIL. I am in drama, NHS, and DECA.
College plans: I plan to attend the University of Texas at Dallas.
Birthplace: Brownwood, Texas
