Roscoe: Alyssa Black
Age: 18
Grade: 12
Event: Prose Interpretation
How long you’ve been competing: 2 years
What’s the most challenging/nerve-wracking thing about your event: Having someone reading an excerpt from the same book you are reading from in the finals and then having them be almost the same excerpt.
First thing you’ll do when you win: Usually cry! Since this is my senior year I am always afraid that I am not going to advance and then when I do I am so happy that I end up crying! Just ask my coach!
Past honors in the event: 5th Place my sophmore year at District. Then this year 3rd place at the Wylie Invitational Meet, 1st place at the Irion County Invitational Meet, 2nd Place at District, 1st place at Regionals.
Extracurricular activities/other UIL events: Piano, Band, One Act Play, Prose, and Cheerleading, First Baptist Church Youth group and church organist.
College plans: I plan to attend Angelo State University and major in Elementary Education Early Childhood through 4th grade.
Birthplace: Childress, Texas
One thing your parents, a sibling or even a best friend might not know about you: Before I enter the room to speak my coach and I step to the side and I do the same vocals for him that I do for One-Act Play before we perform, this helps me to say my words correctly and really articulate them. Since I have started doing this I have not made it to finals so maybe that is my good luck charm! One thing is for sure I will definantly be doing them at State!
