Wylie: Mary Lynn Bunkley
Event: Current Issues and Events
How long you’ve been competing: I have competed in Current Events for 3 years ( 9th, 10th and 11th grade)
What’s the most challenging/nerve-wracking thing about your event: The hardest part about Current Events is getting studying done at our meetings, because we spend most of out meetings laughing incessively. The most nerve-wracking part of Current Events is wating for the results, because the whole time you're thinking about what you could've added to your essay or that you put the wrong answer down on the multiple-choice questions.
First thing you’ll do when you win: Take a picture with Bobby Hawthorne, (the man who writes the Current Events test)!
Past honors in the event: Freshman: District - 3rd place individual, 1st place team; Regionals - 6th place individual, 1st place team; State - 3rd place individual, 1st place team.
Sophmore: District - 2nd place individual, 1st place team; Regionals - 2nd place individual, 1st place team; State - 1st place team.
Junior: District - 1st place individual, 1st place team; Regionals - 3rd place individual, 1st place team.
Extracurricular activities/other UIL events: I am a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church and am very active in the youth group and youth choir. I am the Co-community Impact Coordinator for the United Way Youth Council, I've volunteered over 250 hours in the past 3 years. I am a Co-Chair for the Teacher Appreciation Commitee of WHS Student Council. I have participated in the school musical, WHS track, and Pioneer Drive's Easter Pageant. I was the 2006 HOBY Youth Sponsor for Wylie High School.
College plans: I hope to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in International Affairs, I hope to spend most of my college semesters studying abroad.
Birthplace: Abilene, TX
One thing your parents, a sibling or even a best friend might not know about you: I never go more that one month without breaking at least one dish.
