Wylie: Michael Nguyen
Age: 17
Grade: 11th
Event: Number Sense
How long you’ve been competing: 5 years (since my 6th grade year)
What’s the most challenging/nerve-wracking thing about your event: Answering 80 questions accurately and precisely within that ten-minute interval. Pretty nerve wracking, especially when the number one guy is sitting on your right and knowing that you have to beat him.
First thing you’ll do when you win: Cheer. That and then call my parents and then my girlfriend telling them that I just won.
Past honors in the event: (I sat down and actually started counting them) 5 trophies, 49 medals, 5 ribbons
Extracurricular activities/other UIL events: Meals on Wheels, Youth Leadership at Holy Family; I also do Calculator Applications and Mathematics
College plans: I plan on going to either Baylor, ACU, or Texas Tech. Then I plan on going to another 4 years of medical school.
Birthplace: Abilene, TX
One thing your parents, a sibling or even a best friend might not know about you: I procrastinate too much. Yes I may be Asian, but I don't constantly study and I put off homework ... at least until the next morning.
