Haskell: Dawn Skinner
Grade: 10
Event: News Writing
How long you've been
competing in UIL: UIL since 3rd grade, News since 9th grade
What's the most challenging/nerve-wracking
thing about your event: The most nerve-wracking thing is when the timekeeper
says we have five minutes left. I
usually get tense and start typing faster because I'm scared I won't finish on
time--but I always do.
First thing you'll do when you win: Scream
with excitement! Then text my mom,
sister, and friends and tell them the good news.
Past honors in the event: 2008: 2nd place District. 2009: 4th Place City View, 2nd Place District, 3rd
Place Regional
Extracurricular activities/other UIL events: Also
do feature writing and Editorial writing.
I play trumpet in the band. I'm
involved in FFA including Dairy product judging, which went to state the last 2
years. I am the news editor for the
school newspaper, The War Whoop. And a
member of Quill & Scroll.
College plans: I plan to attend Tarleton State
University where I want to get a degree in business.
Birthplace: Wichita Falls, TX
One thing your parents, a sibling or even a
best friend might not know about you: When I was little I always dreamed about
becoming a famous ice skater, but now I dream about owning my own magazine
company.
