Ortiz y Pino for Congress?

"We are not denying that he is running for Congress."

So sayeth Harry Pavlides, the Roundhouse gadabout now working for freshman Sen. Gerald Ortiz y Pino. The Albuquerque Democrat today successfully passed two bills out of the Senate, one of them a legacy from his predecessor.

Richard Romero was the first sponsor of the "Scooby" bill to require bittering agents in antifreeze. He was chided last year for trying to pass feel-good legislation to bolster his run against U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson, an Albuquerque Republican.

Now it's Ortiz y Pino in Romero's seat, passing his bills, and whispering, loudly, about a Congressional run, if Pavlides is to be believed. The race is, of course, two years away, and Wilson is developing a reputation as a safe seat after dispatching one Democrat after another.

"I wish the Senator luck in his race for Congress," joshed Senate Minority Whip Leonard Lee Rawson, at the close of the vote. Rawson is from Las Cruces.
