A cold cup of coffee

Life as a Roundhouse reporter depends on two things: good stories and strong coffee.

The former is available all over the place.

The latter, to the best of my knowledge, is available in two places near the Capitol.

There's Ohori's Tea and Coffee, next-door to Kaune's Food Town, just a hop skip and a harrowing leap across Paseo de Peralta. The coffee there is so strong and dark I often think they named themselves after the exclamation made by customers taking their first sip.

Call it high-test, high-octane, or high-voltage; it's the stuff of life for me.

But tucked away behind the PERA Building across Old Santa Fe Trail was another little shop with a beguiling atmosphere, tasty grub and a fine cuppa joe. Jane's Cafe was a great place to go and hide when the Roundhouse was getting a little too nutty. Good music, too.

But today I heard the dispiriting word: Jane's Cafe is closing. The rent's too high, they say.

Tomorrow, Friday, they'll be open until noon, serving coffee. All fans of the place are welcome to stop by. A caffeinated wake, so to speak.
