Lobos vs. Miners

September 19, 2005

I can't say enough that this weekend is huge for the Miners and Lobos.
With Utah's loss to TCU, one of these programs will emerge as the top candidate to be the southwest's BCS buster.
New Mexico is, by far, the toughest team on UTEP's schedule. If the Miners keep it together, they could easily go undefeated this season.
The Lobos have a bit tougher run with road games at TCU, Utah and Wyoming, but every one of those teams is beatable. No one boasts better athletes than Missouri, a team New Mexico beat convincingly 45-35.
It appears the Miners and Lobos are destined to do something special this year. I think it's worth the road trip for Lobos fans to catch what should a great college football game. If you are considering going, you better lock in your tickets soon. UTEP coach Mike Price already is predicting a Sun Bowl sellout and a Miner-heavy crowd.
We've got a bonanza of coverage planned this week, so check www.abqtrib.com daily for updates.
Feel free to post any questions you have about either team, and I'll do my best to answer them.

I await your poll for the week. I try to read the tribune everyday, living in Memphis to keep up with the latest information on every LOBO team.

I am becoming a follower of your articles on LOBOS football this year. especially justification on top 25.

do you believe that this week’s winner of the UNM/UTEP game will really make the top 25? neither team is really making the same kind of "noise" to this point in the season like UTAH did last year.

while I am trying to be unswayed by the LOBOS early season success, I do have to admit, that I can see them being 8-0 heading into the espn2 game vs. CSU, of which I will be attending this year. fortunately, I will also be attending the TCU game & if I had planned this just right, I would have made the UTEP game.

while trying to remain un-biased, what would an undefeated season mean to this football team/program/MWC conference/community/state? I think we can both agree that the LOBOS would not be a BCS buster (this early in the season). But the high-profile can only continue trends set these last 3-4 yrs for the program. don’t get me wrong, if the LOBOS can suddenly blow everyone out in MWC conference games, much like UTAH last year, there’s always a shot “at the high-profile game”.

looking forward to your top 25 & any responses to the above.
