Recruit honored

March 30, 2006

Forward Christian Shelter, who committed to play for the New Mexico women's basketball team, earned Alabama player of the year honors in the private school division.
She averaged 20.7 points and 9.5 rebounds during her senior year.
Fellow recruit Amy Beggin, a point guard who already signed her letter of intent, is a candidate for Minnesota player of the year.

Birmingham News Girls Super All-State team

Four seniors and one sophomore make up The Birmingham News 2006 Girls Super All-State basketball team released today.
Alabama's Miss Basketball Shanavia Dowdell of Calera headlines the squad at center. Rounding out the team are guards Yvonne Anderson of Hoover and Brittaney Thomas of Jeff Davis and forwards Reneisha Hobbs of J.O. Johnson and Christian Shelter of Faith Academy in Mobile. Anderson is the lone sophomore.
The News state coach of the year is Samson's Scott Kinsaul.


FORWARD: RENEISHA HOBBS, J.O. JOHNSON
The 5-11 senior forward will join her sister Sherell next year at Auburn. Reneisha signed with the Tigers in November. Hobbs averaged 21.1 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists per game for the Jaguars and was named the Class 5A player of the year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. Her coach is Robert Malone.

FORWARD: CHRISTIAN SHELTER, FAITH ACADEMY
The 6-1 senior forward was named MVP of the AISA Class 3A state tournament after leading her team to the championship. A New Mexico commitment, Shelter averaged 20.7 points, 9.5 rebounds and finished her career with 2,104 points and more than 1,000 boards.

Amy not one of five finalists for Minnesota Miss Basketball

The Miss Basketball of Minnesota Committee is pleased to announce the Five Finalists for the coveted 2006 Miss Basketball Award:

The winner will be announced at the 32nd Annual Awards Banquet which will be held on Sunday, April 9th, 12:00, noon, at the Minneapolis Marriott West.

I stand corrected.
Last I heard she was still in the mix, but obviously she didn't make the list of five finalists.
