DonTrell Speaks!

July 26, 2006

Well, not to me, but I try not to take it personally.
Ex-Lobo DonTrell Moore has been ducking my calls since he got snubbed in the NFL Draft, but the Trib has a great news partnership with KRQE-News 13 that allowed me to bring our readers a DonTrell Moore update.
DonTrell is friendly with Van Tate and his crew, so he granted an interview while visiting his family is Roswell earlier this week. Van invited me over to look at the raw footage of interview, and I was able to compile this story for today's Tribune.
I thought the most interesting part was DonTrell's decision to go all-or-nothing with the NFL. If he makes it, he's happy. If he doesn't, he said he won't bother with the CFL or arena football. Instead, he's shooting to be a real-life CSI guy. Interesting choice.

I am close to DonTrell Moore, and I know that he does not and has not ever "ducked" your calls IF and WHEN he recieves a call he ALWAYS returns them. I know that before and during the NFL Draft he never once recieved a phone call OR a message from you. You reported in the paper that you left messages with others for him to contact you, if you cared about your article and cared about being a professional you would contact HIM personally. So you cannot leave messages with other people HOPING they relay the message, and if they don't, bad mouth him in the paper like you have. The reason he keeps in touch with Van Tate is because he has ALWAYS been respectful to DonTrell and respectful of his privacy. Practice it sometime and see if you get better results.

Unfortunately, I think you have me confused with another reporter. The other newspaper in town reported DonTrell did not respond to messages relayed by other people.

I have DonTrell's phone number and interviewed him once before the NFL Draft. For weeks after the draft, he did not respond to dozens of messages I left for him on his voicemail. His agents also did not return my calls. I worked very, very hard to reach him for quite some time. He doesn't have to respond to my inquiries, but it isn't because I didn't try to reach him.

This post on my blog, written many months ago, was simply intended to explain the context of my story updating DonTrell's plans. Since DonTrell chose not to grant an interview with me, I worked with Van Tate to get the news in the paper.

I do try to be respectful in doing my job, and I think most readers see that reflected in my work. Thanks for reading the blog and sharing your thoughts.
