Lobos lead Phoenix 29-26 at half
Well, that was just an ugly first half of basketball. Neither team played especially well, but UNM climbed out of the cellar to take a 29-26 halftime.
The Lobos haven't been sharp by any stretch of the imagination, and I'm sure they're hearing an earful right now from UNM coach Don Flanagan after getting our-rebounded 21-13 by a much shorter team.
The brightest spot for UNM has to be Brandi Kimble, who seems to be the only Lobo who remembers what happened in Vegas. She has a game-high seven points, four steals and three boards. She also is the only player on either squad to log a full 20 minutes in the first half.
Wisconsin-Green Bay wasn't exactly lighting it up either. The Phoenix's leading scorer is guard Kayla Grohl with six points. Senior forward Nicole Soulis, the team's leading scorer this season, only has two points.
It will be very interesting to see how UNM opens the second half. This is very much a winnable game for the Lobos. They just have to figure out how to play up their potential.
