No new Lobos
It's been interesting watching the debate on the last blog entry, but it's well past time for me to change the subject.
As of late today, the UNM women's basketball program was not expecting to receive a letter of intent to fill the void left by center Morgan Saso, who would have been a junior next season. UNM coach Don Flanagan said the Lobos were targeting one player but it was pretty late in the process to go back and offer a scholarship to the player. Aztec guard Patricia Malouff, who was rumored to be a walk-on candidate, signed a letter of intent to play for Eastern New Mexico. Her high school coach told me nothing has changed and Malouff has not made any moves to get out of her letter of intent with Eastern to join the Lobos.
So the game plan appears to hang on to that scholarship and have three available to replace a very small but potent senior class -- Brandi Kimble and Dionne Marsh. That's gotta be a fun recruiting assignment. Go find two replacements for Kimble and Marsh. If the coaches are courting explosive scorers and trying to step up a level in terms of recruiting stars, it should be no surprise the Lobos don't have any early commitments yet.

If a maggot tried to live on Dense Lobo's cerebellum cortex, it would starve.
----
Short of synapses, Dense Lobo heaps praise on Phlanagan's hidden impact player.
----
I openly scoffed that anyone who could be an impact player on our roster was just hanging around for Phlanagan and the other High Schoolers to show up with a scholarship offer.
----
Sure enough, Phlanagan was dreaming and the Phlanagan Phlack Claque bite the dust...again.
----
It is best to take the Oilman's pronouncements with a healthy measure of adult skepticism.
----
Now, short of synapses, Dense Lobo does an about face and crows about saving the scholarship for something he calls roster balance.
---
What is roster balance? Does it offset unbalanced coaches or their sychophants.
----
Phlanagan should have gone after the Aztec girl last Fall and dropped a scholarship on her in a heartbeat.
----
New Mexicans who pay the freight are getting madder and madder about Phlanagan dissing our girls, preferring empty roster positions to a player from New Mexico, and trying to offeset by letting them walk on.
----
The program has stagnated for the past five years and attendance has declined precipitously from its peak of 11,896 reached in 2002-03.
----
Go Lobos!

I think this would be a good time to start the "ignore him and maybe he'll go away" tactic that worked fairly well on the other board where this particular parasite chose to embed himself...
----
And I still don't get the dashes.
----
It's like he can't connect two incoherent thoughts together to form a meaningful paragraph.
----
Okay, meaningful would be pushing it...

Boob Lobo is too short of synapases to see the reason to break up thoughts into sound bites.
----
Boob Lobo uses them himself and others are copying as well.
----
Complex thoughts are easier to digest for sound bite consumers.
----
Limon. There are other possibilities for the lack of news about the next recruiting class.
----
How about getting stiffed? How about hiding all the ones who got away?
----Go Lobos!

Mr. Lopez,
I understand you all are searching for creative nicknames for each other during this contentious debate over the state of women's basketball, but watch it. This is a blog based off a family newspaper Web site and your latest insult of Bobolobo comes awfully close to being offensive. You wouldn't want your comments deleted because you couldn't come up with cleaner adjectives to make your point.
As for your recruiting question, it's pretty unreasonable to chase down every player the Lobos have recruited in some form. Most coaching staffs work off of massive lists, making contacts early and developing relationships with a ton of players. Once the coaches get into a more serious phase where an unofficial visit, official visit or offer is made, then I feel the exchanges warrant reporting. We also make exceptions for local high school athletes who are developing relationships early on with the program because that is a noteworthy for them as local kids who are legitimate college prospects.
Chasing after every athlete who may have had contact with correspondence from a UNM coach just isn't reasonable and, frankly, impossible with my workload. I also don't think it's especially helpful because it would add pressure on a high school who may not even be a serious candidate for a scholarship and it wouldn't be especially insightful for readers because it would merely be a flood of information of no real consequence to the program.
Now, I did report Morgan Shell, who made an unofficial visit to UNM and was offered a scholarship, chose SMU over the Lobos. It is my understanding she wanted to stay closer to home and liked the academic programs available at SMU.

Limon: Use the vast resources of the family newspaper to look up synonyms for fool or idiot.
----
Your comment about my use of one is groundless and more reflective of your mind.
----
Limon you suggested that there was no news about commits because Phlanagan and other High Schoolers were chasing players higher up the talent chain. I merely offered some other possiblities.
----
Nothing in my posting suggests reporting on ever player who comes into contact with UNM.
----
Smoo [SMU} as they call it in Texas is an inferior program where your subject might play sooner than at UNM. She goes %'11". I checked the roster and coaching staff. Not much. Losing to Smoo stings a bit.
----
We need some 6'2" plus studs to man the center position. The Lobo roster has plenty of good players all the way up to 6'1" and more really good ones on the way.

It happens on every board where AndrewLeoLopez (a.k.a. allopezcpa) injects his venom. Posters finally get tired of his incessant banging on the coach (who must have rejected his man-crush) and call him out. He then augments his strawman arguments with cut-down names that have the originality, class and humor of a 3rd grader. His inappropriate responses eventually take him from annoying status to pariah and other board posters just obliterate him to the point where even his pea-size brain can understand that he has been "owned".
He has now found this board where he thinks people can be influenced by his nonsensical rantings because the moderator (a classy, accurate journalist with a coherent and enjoyable writing style) generously lets him post. Unfortunately, he is not at the point yet where he realizes that he has publicly demonstrated what a fool he is, so we will have to endure his irrational public hatred for Don Flanagan until he looks in the mirror and realizes that the warm flush he feels on his forehead, nose and cheeks is a red face that everyone else saw upon his first post (that's how it works for people with an E.Q. that is even lower than their I.Q).

I know, I know. Using the term "man-crush" might not be deemed appropriate. I apologize for accusing AndrewLeoLopez of having a man-crush on Don Flanagan. I was simply trying to use a phrase that succintly describes his insane jealously of the Coach Don Flanagan, successful coach, teacher and human being.
A lot has been uncovered and revealed about Scarecrow's shortcomings but nobody has yet figured out why he is so hateful toward Don Flanagan. Personally, I think he was rebuked by the coach in some manner. It probably had to do with a stupid observation or suggestion about the program made to Flanagan that was not received well (one can only imagine how grating AndrewLeoLopez would be in person based on how he writes).
None-the-less, I admit that referring to AndrewLeoLopez's psychological condition as a man-crush my not have been appropriate and I apologize if anyone read any other meaning of the phrase than intended. Again, my intention was to provide a concise description of AndrewLeoLopez's irrational and emotional thrashing-out - not to imply any other meaning.
