Out of Picture????

April 30, 2007

The chances of Beas Hamga playing in The Pit are looking bleak, some say.

The 7-footer out of Decatur (Ill.) Christian School will likely play for Kentucky instead of New Mexico, said Lobo signee Darrington Hobson, former teammates with Hamga at Decatur.
Decatur coach Alan Huss said Tuesday that Hamga will visit New Mexico in a couple of weeks, as well as Kentucky and UNLV this weekend. The Cameroon native is the fourth-best center in the class of 2008, according to Rivals.com. Recent reports stated Hamga would try to qualify for the class of 2007, which Huss says is a possibility.

Hamga was a former Iowa commitment who considered following Steve Alford to New Mexico, but Kentucky's hard to pass up. Look for the Lobos to keep pounding the recruiting trail and making calls and sending text messages (oh wait, that's a no-no now) in search of big men.

Assistant coach Craig Neal is currently in North Carolina meeting with 6-10 center Monquel Pegues out of Cape Fear Community College. If that deal happens, expect it quickly.

Thanks for the info, this is huge. Billy Clyde got a late start on recruiting but has hit the ground running. With Legion in fold, if we get Lucas and Patterson, it be a top-10 class.

You are being plagarized...the site listed below has a habit of doing this.

Drew the column clearly states "From a New Mexico Paper's Blog" before anything is stated...

Posted by: Rob | May 1, 2007 07:38 AM

This is for Drew. How can you state that the link you listed is plagarized? Do you even know what that word means? It means someone is stealing your work, your material, your article and offers it up as their own, with no credits. The man CLEARLY STATES that it came from another source, a site in New Mexico! Before you accuse someone of something, know first what you are accusing them of actually means. He has not plagarized anyone in his article! Geeze! Maybe you should apoligize for accusing someone of being a thief when he clearly states the article came from some place else!

Wrong again Fowler. "Fowl" ball! Why don't you put down your pen and paper and read the internet recruiting sites. That's where the real news comes from. Not your bush league blog.

Hamga will still visit UNM

Jeff,

Thanks for the post. Of course things can always change, but considering Darrington is a friend of Beas and tried to get his former teammate to play with him at NM, I'd say he's that's pretty reliable source.

That's still an encouraging sign if Hamga is indeed visiting. Couldn't get ahold of his coach yesterday. Just because a guy's visiting doesn't mean he's fully interested, though. Sometimes a guy just wants a free trip.

Looks like you jumped the guy J-Fowl. Hamga will visit ABQ May 20.

Posted by: alfmenace | May 1, 2007 09:29 AM

Fowler... Please stop! Go back to reading theredmenace.com and rivals.com for recruiting news. The connections at the local food chains is not very convincing and the more you report stuff that is totally incorrect the worse you are looking. If anything take the Hairpiece Smith approach and go play golf. Leave the recruiting stuff to the experts.

Posted by: badger77 | May 1, 2007 09:52 AM

BTW - Keep up the good work. Any news is good news on the recruiting front. Make hay while the competition is fast asleep!!

What's wrong with you people? Jeremy is the only reporter in town - along with Scott Stiegler, who is getting news out to us.

The Trib and J-Fowl rock! Iliana does too! Stevens does t....err, Stevens kind of waltzes!

You NM State fans are legends in your own minds if you think you have a chance for Hamga. Asking Hamga to choose NM over Ky is like asking a homeless guy to choose an outhouse over the Taj Mahal. Go back to playing your D2 and D3 level ball and let the real teams like Ky play for the NCAA title.

Thanks for the info, Johnny Appleseed. You guys have been so impressive here lately that I almost forgot how 'royal' Kentucky fans are.

They don't call you people queens for nothing!

Hey, if a miracle happens, hell freezes over, water flows uphill, grass turns blue and we steal Hamga from you, will you still honk the horn on your garbage truck every time that you pass through our neighborhood?

Hey BBW- Quit kissing butt hoping they might mention your dying website in the paper or on radio. Right now Bandito and Yakkakat are driving the recruiting news bus.

All of Fowler's real information has come via repeating the information from either from yakka or bandito, or he just seems to make things up.

And Stiegler isn't going out and getting news he is just repeating what his friends at TRM and yakkakat are feeding him. At least Stigler gives credit when he does it and shockingly enough your name or website isn't mentioned ever.

Let's stick to basketball on this blog, folks.

I enjoy your stuff J. Keep up the good work!!

I hope you're wrong on Hagma!

This would be a HUGE finishing touch to Alford's first recruiting class if we could get Hagma. I'm not really holding my breath, but I didn't think Alford would be this successful this early (assuming all of the recruits make it here).

Posted by: whas_uuu | May 1, 2007 11:52 PM

Stig is doing a great job of taking SOME information and going to get more of the story. How can you say he's just repeating what others are saying? He's getting interviews with recruits and recruits' coaches. That is a lot more than other media are doing!

You sure get some odd cats posting on your blog, Jeremy.

I'm not sure what a Yaka or a Bandito is, and I'm pretty sure I don't really want to find out.

On topic - There's no doubt this guy would pick a rebuilding Kentucky team over a rebuilding UNM team. Let's be realistic.

Dead huh? Let's see, starting out in March of 2004, we have now had 37 straight months of improving over the same month from the previous year. In fact, 5 of the last 7 months have set all-time hit records, with March 2007 averaging over 8,000 hits per day and around 240 posts per day.

You guys don't even average 240 correctly-spelled words per day, let alone match our numbers.

But, as you say, we are "dying."

Someone forgot to tell Danny Granger, who has been posting all weekend (the only site that he trusts).

Someone forgot to tell Gary and David Chiotti, as papa Chiotti recently wrote an article for us detailing how son David is tearing up the Austrian league.

Someone forgot to tell Don Flanagan, who sat down for an interview a few days ago - at almost the exact same time that Jeff Hart completed a 2-part mega interview with us.

Someone also forgot to tell the Ryan Kersten family, longtime posters who are keeping us up on Ryan's career in New Zealand - just like Howard Johnson is keeping us up on Aaron, and Jeff Oestreicher is keeping us up on son David.

Someone also forgot to tell a lot of other people too. Probably 75% of the team and their familes are active members of our site....because they trust us.

And by the way, we broke the news about Hobson a full 8-10 hours before anyone else did. Ask your buddy Stig.

Wow. I can see why you are so bitter, now. Have a Kleenex on me.

Does the term "Same Team" mean anything to any of you? Guess not...

Posted by: RedPitSea | May 2, 2007 11:20 AM

Thats funny because Danny was posting over on LoboLair this weekend also. Its also funny how Yakka from LoboLair was a recruiting guest on Stigs show the other night. Remember John Simpson? Ask your buddy Stig. Its also sad how you let players parents go on your board and rip the coaches and assistants.Still wondering why UNM wont let you get close to the players? We still have a great shot at landing Beas but Kentucky is the clear leader right now. Anybody but UNLV.

Nice quality control, Roboto. Good point.
