Gamer check: Chicago Chimera win the North American final
The Chicago Chimera squeaked by in a close win over the Carolina Core, 22-21 in the North American final of the Championship Gaming Series.
Jeremy Florence, who is Chicago's "Dead or Alive 4 Male" player, lost to his opponent Ryan Ward 2-5 Monday night, but the two points he scored were critical for the Chicago win, said Chimera General Manager Brain Flander.
"We only won by one point, so we really needed Jeremy's wins in those two rounds," Flander said.
Chicago's best play was in "CounterStrike: Source" and "Project Gotham Racing 3," where the Chimera outscored the Core by a total of 18-9.
Both teams have the next three months off to practice for the world championships in November.
Chicago will need more practice in both "Dead or Alive 4" and FIFA '07" during that time, Flander said.
Florence said he was thrilled that his team won. He plans to do a lot of work in the off-season to prepare for the world championships.
"I feel great," Florence said. "I just need to stay with what I'm doing, practice a lot and keep getting better."
