Meet Adriana Gomez Licón

May 31, 2007

Nickname(s): Yani

College: University of Texas at El Paso

Family: Parents Linda and Alejandro; brother Jos‚ Alejandro; sister Gabriela

Places I've lived: Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico (my hometown), and El Paso (where I study).

My car is: a gold Chevrolet Lumina 1999.

I wish my car was: I really don't care; a smaller one, I would say.

What Mom always told me: A lot of sayings and proverbs like, "You have to suffer to be beautiful." They are mostly in Spanish, but things like, "Always think before you talk; never tell a guy too much about you; always be sure he loves you more than you love him." A LOT of things like that.

In my spare time I like to: Watch films, read, exercise, watch "Gilmore Girls," go to art galleries, among other things.

Favorite superhero: Spider-Man, because he is a photographer and he is very simple (and handsome) and flexible.

If I had a million dollars: I think I would travel a lot and live in a great city in France or something like that.

A book and a movie I love: Lars Von Trier's "Dogville" and "Eleven Minutes" by Paulo Coehlo.

The thing I most want to do while in New Mexico: Meet new people, new places, establish good relationships with the whole staff, and ride in a van and go to the "Little Miss Sunshine" contest (hehehe).

Comfort food: I'm not too special with food. I like Chinese, Mexican and Italian.

Red or green: Green.

Press Release:

When New Mexico mother, Linda Pena, realized her
daughter, had a crystal meth problem at the age of 14, there wasn't a lot of
information available to help her understand the causes, danger and
effect of this drug.
That was 11 years ago, and with her daughter now clean from meth use for
several years, but still fighting some of the long term effects of prior use,
Ms. Pena is on a mission to educate others on the impact of meth use.
Ms. Pena has set up a non-profit organization, Parents Stop Meth. She created a
website,ParentsStopMeth.org, to expand awareness of the debilitating effects
that meth use causes for the families and the person directly involved
with the drug's use.
Ms. Pena and her daughter now speak at schools and other organizations. In the
coming months they will be expanding their message through several statewide campaigns,
in New Mexico and Nevada. On 9/13 they will participate in Part 2 of the Nevada
"Crystal Darkness Campaign" in Reno,Nevada. This includes an opportunity to meet with
Nevada Governor, Jim Gibbons.

While in Nevada, Ms. Pena will be a guest on 9/25 of the morning talk
show "The Best of Pahrump" with host Byron Wardlaw. Ms. Pena is asking
the public for help in funding her and her daughter's mission against
crystal meth.
She would like to, upon her return from Nevada, expand the "Crystal Darkness Campaign"
to New Mexico."I am a single mother with a single cause," says Ms. Pena. "I'm devotiing
my time and resources to educating families about the dangers of crystal meth,
and am asking the public to help support this effort through a
tax-deductible donation."
Donations can be made via paypal via the ParentsStopMeth.org website. Or a check mailed to
Parents Stop Meth, P.O. Box 77 Ft. Sumner, NM 88119 or deposit can be made into the
