Baseball tidbit

July 23, 2007

I don't know how I missed this -- I check out these websites all the time -- but ...

Rio Rancho senior-to-be Anthony Haase was named 2007 Louisville Slugger New Mexico High School Baseball Player of the Year.

Haase earned two of the Rams three wins at the state tournament, including the state championship. He shutout Onate with just 79 pitches, allowing two hits.

Here's a look at the winners from the other states.

do you have any news on where last spring's senior metro baseball stars are playing their college ball? I saw where Haggerty from Eldo is playing at UNM, and I believe Aragon from LC is at KSU. Garcia from RR is going to a juco in El Paso. Lucero from WMHS is at juco in CO. How about Gallegos and Lucero from Valley. Last I heard Lucero had committed to pitch at UNM, but I don't see him on their roster. Maybe he found someplace that wants him as a catcher? And I hope someone picked up Gallegos--I think he was probably the best pitcher in the state last year.
