Senior Thoughts
By Sheyenne Nicole Martinez

Graduating from Bernalillo High School has been a significant aspect in my life. The past four years at Bernalillo has provided me with immense opportunities, interaction with various cultures and devoted attention from many of the educators.

In this small-school setting, I was able to obtain small classes, where the teacher was able to give individual attention to each student.

I gained a greater comprehension of the subject that was taught, and I was able to converse with the teacher and other fellow students about topics that were discussed and presented in the classroom.

Specific teachers at Bernalillo High School became interested with my academic success and encouraged me to strive for higher ambitions. Through their interactions with many of the students and myself, I became profoundly involved in various organizations in and out of the school.

Many remarkable opportunities are available at Bernalillo. Through the various offerings at Bernalillo, I had the experience of traveling to Germany, interacting with distinct foreign students, helping younger children pursue their determined aspirations and increasing my intellectual abilities.

Traveling to Germany provided me with greater insight about many distinguished people and broadened my mind to a whole new perspective of the world and life.

Through the exchange program offered at Bernalillo High School, I became familiar with the foreign students who arrived each September. Hosting three German students, I became accustomed with their habits, morals and ideals.

The organizations that I became involved in often worked with the local elementary schools. Through my involvement with the students, I began to recognize their strengths and weaknesses and assist them with their homework predicaments.

With my interaction with the local elementary students, I had the chance to inspire them to succeed academically when they attend high school and further advanced education.

It is astounding that Bernalillo High School, a small diverse school, offers many academic programs and AP courses.

Through the advanced courses, I became better educated and familiarized myself with the strenuous work that I will be presented with in my future college courses.

At Bernalillo, there is such a diverse group of students, which enables each student to learn about the other cultures presented at the school.

Through my experience, I have had the opportunity to learn about many of my peers' customs and their unique living habits.

Many people around the state perceive Bernalillo High School as a negative setting and a harmful influence on the students and the community. These individuals do not fully comprehend the immense opportunities that Bernalillo High School offers; the culture correlations, and the success each student can accomplish after graduation.

After working diligently at my four years in high school, I am proud to have the honor as the valedictorian of Bernalillo High School. This school has given me the hope, the opportunity, and the skills to achieve higher standards.
