West Mesa High School is one of the most diverse schools in Albuquerque. It's diverse not only racially, but in its teaching styles, curriculum and extracurricular activities.

Our student body is made up of a whopping 2,700 students. The varied campus allows for our school to stand out as one of the best.

Our school offers a number of advanced placement classes for students who are willing to work that much harder to prepare for college. I am glad to say that the number of advanced placement courses grows each year, allowing us to challenge ourselves in more areas.

In addition, our school harbors fantastic teachers whose spirit inspires us to strive to work harder in our academics. This year's winner of the Teacher of the Year award went to the congenial Ms. Luisa Castillo.

In addition to great teachers, our school has a great amount of extracurricular activities to keep us involved and upbeat.

I am proud to say that our Mustang softball team has taken the state championship and that our cheerleading squad took second at state.

With great coaches, a supportive administration and student body, the accomplishments of our extracurricular activities further enhance our Mustang pride.

Other sports like track and field, swimming, football, baseball, tennis and the like, have all made us proud this year as well. Clubs and organizations like student council, Deca, MEChA, etc. are also great contributors to our school's pride.

Our activities director, Ruby Sandoval, worked tirelessly to ensure that this year went as smoothly and enjoyable as possible.

With such a great academic and social atmosphere, it is no wonder why the class of 2006 has been the best thus far. The students from the class of 2006 have supported West Mesa throughout their four years and I am proud to say that around 350 of them will be graduating on May 18.
