Severe thunderstorms
A very strong storm is heading this way. We may get a lot of rain, but most likely more wind than rain. As the storm approaches deep moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will be pulled into the storm. Conditions will come together for severe thunderstorms to break out. However, it is still way too early to tell if we are in the location where the severe thunderstorms will hit. Below, you will see the 500 mb pattern for Tuesday evening. The upper low may track south or north of this position. More Monday.....

Finally, some excitement! My perpetual stormy weather tastebuds have been watering since our last, brief thunderstorm last month. I can't wait to see how Tuesday & Wednesday will turn out.
It would be cool if people could post weather pictures on this blog in the comments, or could post to an online album linked closely to this blog. Just a thought!

what a neat idea, a weather blog! I would like to know what 500mb means. Some kind of explanation of the map would be welcome. Just a little primer for those of us who are weather geeks, but do not know the science. I look at the clouds to see if we will get a storm. Not always accurate, but fun.

This is a great idea! For someone like me who loves to follow the weather it's really cool to get to hear a meteorologists thoughts on how they predict the weather. BTW, has anyone released any predictions on whether it will be a very active severe weather season or not?
Marlina,
It is difficult to say if it will be active this spring. I doubt it will be as active as the past two years, but we'll see.

Today may not have any TStorm action, however my weather station recorded a 31mph gust shortly before 2 PM, and if I'm seeing that sort of activity in a mostly residential area it for sure is blowing a bunch out in the flatlands.

Hey Gary and NBC Action Weather Team...
If we see any severe weather tomorrow, what would you say would be the greatest threat? Tornados? Large Hail? Damaging Winds?

I love, love, love the idea of a weather blog. It's right up my "Curious George" alley!
Keep it up! I am enjoying the extra lessons.
Meanwhile, sounds like this next storm could be a WHOPPER! I like the thunder and lightening but I have a fear of tornadoes after softball sized hail and a tornado outbreak destroyed our farm (and most of our town)when I was 13. Any chances of tornadoes in this storm? I know it's not too early in the season...

Bring on the storms! I agree with Anne. That one storm last month was just a teaser!
