Bullseye?
Hey there,
Overnight, a quick rain shower raced through some neighborhoods on the city's near side on up to highway 36. Meantime, I am watching a fading thunderstorm complex south of the metro area. It looks like it won't hold together.
Behind this complex there is an area of sinking air and clearing skies. Will the sun appear in K-C today? If it does then the 80s are possible.
Otherwise, take a look at the graphic below and see how we could be in for some heavy rain tonight. This model, paints a bullseye right here for tomorrow morning's commute.

That means inches of rain are possible here or somewhere nearby. More data is coming with the BIG question, where will the bullseye be? Gary will have the latest tonight at 5,6 and 10 p.m.
Have a great day,
Brett

Are we tapped into a special moisture flow right now or what other factors explain all this heavy rainfall lately?
ANNIE:
We are close to a frontal boundary. The back-door cold front that moved through the other day is stalled to our south. It is expected to begin lifting north again as a warm front... to keep us with the chance of showers and thunderstorms. We have been tapped into a moist flow around here... picking up Gulf and Monsoon moisture. Also, with a front in the area, we sometimes see the "pooling" of dewpoints. This is an area, where there is a "pool" of higher dewpoints-- or higher amounts of moisture at the surface.
Warm, MOIST air is also unstable air. SO you can see that an area of higher dew points could lead to thunderstorm activity. And there is certainly a lot of moisture to work with, as our dew point is currently at 70 degrees!
Hope that helps!
Jamie
