Cold front!

Above you can see the GFS forecast for 1 PM Wednesday. The front should be past Kansas City with some rain around. There is a powerful upper level storm forming over the Dakota's with developing snow. There is some question of how much cold air will move in here Wednesday afternoon. We will have a west-northwesterly wind and it should drop into the 50s, but sometimes around an upper low to our north the cold air is mostly aloft. Temperatures are in the 40s across Nebraska so I have confidence that we will drop to at least 55 or maybe a bit lower Wednesday afternoon.
The winter weather pattern is about to set up. It hasn't yet and I will be blogging about this regularly beginning next week.

Gary, The map above looks exactly like the one ya"ll have posted on 30 Sep. What's up? They say lightning don't strike the same place twice, but it does come close. Is the same thing true for weather patterns?
Or do I need to drink more coffee before I try to analyze weather data.
By the way, you have the best team in the business and I thank ya'll for providing the tools I need to plan my weekend activities accordingly.
JIM:
Good eye! You are right, the maps ARE the same... you can tell by the date in the lower left hand corner. The reason for the slip... we must have saved yesterday's map OVER the file we used on Sept. 30th. Thus it overwrote that file and took it's place. Oops! We will have to watch it. I will have a talk with the guys today!
Thanks for pointing it out!

Hey Gary how is the weather team? I was just wondering when the winter pattern will set up and when will the cold front be near appleton and how cold will it be. Thanks
DANIEL:
Thanks for writing... the NBC Action Weather Team is doing great! We are really enjoying the transition in the weather pattern. The winter pattern will set up over the next month. Gary will be talking about it and should have a good idea of the winter outlook sometime in early November.
The cold front moved through yesterday (Wednesday), and colder air continues to filter in. Today's lows were in the lower 40s... tomorrow morning we could be in the upper 30s. Enjoy the refreshing air!
