Friday's storm Part 2

gfs_500_048s.gif

Above is the 500 mb chart forecast by the GFS for Friday evening 6 PM. Notice the X over northeast Kansas. This is the upper level storm. If it tracks south of Kansas City we could see significant rain or snow. Other factors such as 1) will it be even stronger and 2) will it be cold enough? We will look at this in more detail Thursday. Friday could be very interesting.

After Friday we see an Arctic front sneaking into the northern US over the weekend. But, the true Arctic air is way north and I think it will be paying us a visit soon.

Hi I was wondering if the pattern we are in could support a very large snowstorm in March Some winters can have very large snowstorms in March when the rest of the winter didn't have too much snow.

Chris in St.Joseph

CHRIS:
If there is a chance of this happening... it would be towards the end of March. That would be the "colder" part of the pattern.
Thanks for blogging!

I guess windy and stormy can finally get some rest now. I bet it was fun to take care of mags. I guess you all can get some sleep now!!! LOL. It looks like the next storm might not give us a lot of snow south of K.C. I am watching a new storm that is supposed to arive sunday night into monday. From what you see right now does it look like sundays storm might affect the southern viewing area? I am deffiently keeping an eye on that storm. Thanks for some of the tips you e-mailed me. Lets get some snow!!!

Gary,

You talk a lot about the 55-day weather pattern and I believe you said months ago you gave a presentation on this at a weather conference. Is this posted online anywhere? I would love to read more about your theory!

Can't wait to find out what is in store for us on Friday!

Tim in Greenwood

Tim:
The presentation is not online anywhere at this time. But you can find more information on our Winter Forecast page here:

Gary,

When will we have our next snow day?!

It seems as if this winter's temperatures have been well over average... Could this be a hint of global warming?

MUKUL:
There is a chance of snow Friday night... but not a lot and Saturday isn't a school day, anyway!! So right now, there are NO signs of a snow day in the next 7 days...
