Drought Watch!

Click Above to enlarge
Above, you can see the drought monitor index. Jamie posted it yesterday, and I decided to post it again today. As we continue to cycle through our weather pattern it shows no indication of being able to produce any rain or snow. There should be two or three storm systems that will be capable of some widespread rainfall towards the middle and end of March. But, for the most part it looks dry. We will be issuing a drought watch tonight on our newscasts. We will monitor this for us as we go through the next few weeks.
It is absolutely fascinating looking at this weather pattern. As expected we went through the cold part of the pattern and it lasted about the same length as the December cold spell. It wasn't quite as cold as it was in Decmeber, but it was close. That part of the pattern will be back in April. Watch out for a late hard freeze.

When in April do you think we will have a hard freeze. Thanks and keep up the great work...
Steve,
This cold part of the pattern will likely return during the first half of April, ending around April 23rd or so. This doesn't mean we will have a freeze that late, but I would certainly say it is more likely than in most years. We would likely have a fairly hard freeze a week or two before around April 8th, but then one last surge could arrive by the 23rd or 25th.

Hello Gary,
I alway look forward to your forecast you do a wonderful job.I was wondering do you think the snow is over for the winter?
Anna,
I believe it is over. The weather pattern just doesn't seem capable of producing any more snow.

Gary
what it currently looks like do you think that our chance for snow is about over for this month? Do you see any suprise storms in march. I am going to start on my tornado simulator very soon and I hope to have it done by April. I will bring it up to show you next time I come up there. Do you think that we will have an active spring pattern? Or does it look like we are going to be in this boring pattern for a while. I really hope our chances of snow is not over yet for this winter season. I'll talk to you later. Tell everyone I said hi!!! :)
John,
It almost always snows in March. It hasn't the past two years, so let's see what happens. So, there is still at least a little hope. Remember, the biggest snowstorm in Kansas City history occurred in March.
