All Good Things...
TODAY'S NUMBERS:
HIGH: 74
LOW: 40
POLLEN COUNT
BIRCH: HIGH
All good things... must come to an end. Sigh. What a BEAUTIFUL day today! Mostly sunny, a nice breeze, and highs in the 70s... WOW!! But thing are going to be changing pretty quickly here!
We are watching a line of thunderstorms moving in from the West this evening. It looks like they could reach the Topeka area by midnight. You can see where the storms are right NOW on our ESP radar. Click on the image below to see the most current radar:

There have been several damage reports with this area of thunderstorms already. Mostly hail reports, but there has been one report of a tornado in Pawnee County, KS.
There is now a SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH for areas West of Topeka... including Manhattan, Clay Center, Council Grove and Marysville, Kansas. The WATCH will probably spread East as the storms move in. You can stay on top of the warnings here:
NWS WATCHES AND WARNINGS
With this round of thunderstorms... we can expect heavy downpours, lots of lightning, and possibly some stronger winds and hail. The line should weaken a bit as it heads our way, but the severe threat is still there.
As for additional thunderstorms on Sunday, the lastest model data is speeding everything up. Based on this evening's NAM... the thunderstorms would develop EAST of KC. If this verifies... we could have another beautiful weekend day! We do still have a *SLIGHT* chance of something here, but the better shot is Eastern Missouri and into Illinois. Here is how it looks graphically:

If we do see thunderstorms Sunday, we will have the increased risk of tornadoes. We will be here through the night to provide updates... and all day on Sunday! Stay with us, and send us your rainfall amounts, or significant weather (hail, wind gusts, etc) if you can! You can comment below... or if you want to send us some pictures, email them to:

Hey ive been watching the radar for a while and it does not look like the storms in southern kansas are losing strength some seem to be strengthning and bowing out and becoming severe am I right or are they losing strength, if so will this be the trend for the night. How is the severe weather chance for tonight and tomorrow and will Appleton City see anything. I didnt catch your 10PM forecast so can u help me out. Thanks you guys are the best.
Daniel,
As it stands now the current line of T-Storms is not that severe. There are occasional, isolated, small bows. There may be some gusts to 40-60 mph as the line moves through. As of 1 AM it is weakening a bit. It also now appears the severe threat for tomorrow will be in the eastern 1/2 of Missouri as the dry line will be passig through KC around 11 AM before T-Storms fire along it.

Hey gang,
The radar shot at 2320 hrs local shows a mass of red behind the main storm and then some little red "dots" out in front there.
Is this system that strong to have the little echos in red (hehe), or is that a remenent of the mode you were in at that time?
I know you're here all night tonight so I didn't want you guys to fall asleep. :-)
Jeff,
The few small T-Storms ahead of the line are real & likely producing brief downpours. This is a very common radar signature. The rain behid the main line is just general moderate to heavy rain with some lightning and thunder. This whole thig seems to be weakening as it approaches KC.

Hi weather team,
We had .32 inches of rain in Olathe on my weather station last night. It's very new, so curious to see how accurate it is compared to other rainfall amounts you get. I like storms, but don't like the lack of sleep that comes with them :)
ELAINE:
I know what you mean... I didn't get much sleep last night (maybe 3-4 hours?). The thunder kept me up, and I could hear little Mags (my dog) in the next room... she was up, too!
Anyway, your rain guage seems to be on target. Here are some other rainfall amounts picked up by the NWS data recording stations:
Olathe New Century: 0.35"
Olathe Johnson Co. Executive: 0.26"
Keep in mind, rainfall amounts can vary from one yard to the next... so we are bound to notice some differences... but you are in the ballpark!
Hope that helps you, and thanks for your report!
