Please help in naming my new puppy

Well, guess what? I met this wonderful puppy at the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City yesterday and today......Windy and Stormy have a new sister! But, we don't have a name for her yet. Please comment on your ideas and we will decide over the weekend. She is about 4 months old and a Shepard mix. Perhaps a Belgian Malinois mix which is a very smart doggy. She is scared in her new environment but she will adjust. Here are some pictures:

Hi! Gary, Congratulation on your new puppy. She is beautiful. I love the name Sernity. I know she will be a great addition to your family. I'm so glad you share your family photos. I know how it is to be proud. Good Luck! Keep up the great weather coverage. Thank You! Lisa

LISA,

THANKS, DID YOU MEAN SERENITY?

Assuming you want to keep with the weather-related names, how about "Thunder"? It would definitely be appropriate if she is full of energy!

TIM,

THUNDER IS A GREAT NAME! WE'LL SEE!

Gary,
Beautiful new puppy! She is gorgeous. Well you've got Windy, you've got Stormy, I am guessing you would like to stay with the "weather theme". How about HAILey. You know, like Haley only spelled like hail.. Just a thought. Did you have any name that you were thinking about?? Let me know what you think.
Ryan

RYAN,

I STILL LIKE DRIZZLE AND CUMULUS, BUT I JUST DON'T HAVE A FAVORITE YET. THIS IS WHY I AM ASKING. HAILEY IS A GREAT IDEA.

Gary,
the new puppy is very cute. In keeping with your weather related dog names, how about Lightning or Blizzard? Lightning if she is quick to strike and Blizzard if she likes to smother you and get your attention. Congratulations on the new addition. I look forward to seeing her on the newscasts.

MARK,

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT.

Hi Gary,

Cute puppy! She looks like she will be bigger than Windy when she grows up (actually Stormy even looks bigger than Windy in those pics). I always thought Cirrus would be a good name, though Cumulus is also good. Since you love snow so much, how about Snowy. LOL. Can't wait to see the new addition.

Hey Gary,

In this year of the tornado, I vote to name her Vortex.

As an aside, I was standing in my driveway (after the slightly larger than golf ball sized hail stopped) on Saturday night watching the wall cloud come over my house near Liberty, in the northeast corner of KCMO.

It was really eerie standing there listening to the tornado sirens wailing in the distance while watching the roiling clouds above me. It was dead still, and the lightning constantly flashing above the wall cloud was fascinating to watch. Bring more exciting weather like that my way, please.

She's such an adorable puppy! I love how your name your dogs after weather terms, I'm sure it really helps when you go to schools. Kids really do relate with animals and it helps with the learning. I think that since Windy and Stormy are named after different common KC weather occurrences, you should have your new pup be named Sunny or Sunshine.

I name my pets after their attitude, after I've had them a few days and then it just comes to me. For example: my dog is BOB BARKER, my cat is FEARLESS (after a broken leg and ripping the cast off as fast as the vet put in back) and PAUSE (PAWS) who is a tiger cat with white feat. Sometimes a good name is in the spelling.
Keeping with the weather theme, think about BREEZY or BREEZE. HALY OR HAILY is works for weather themes as well as astronomy.

Gary - How about StormDog or Storm Dogalina? Or Frau Dogaline (since she has some German blood in her)

Dog

PS In Britain, male delinquents are called "Yobs" for boys spelled backwards, so our Parker is a 'Yob"; therefore using the same logic, girl spelled backwards if Lurig (Lrig) - you could name her that, that's what we call Sheba sometimes, but somehow, I don't think you will.

STORM DOGALINA sounds interesting.

Hi, Gary!

She's adorable! Of course if I was going to go with the popular vote and keep with the weather-related names, my vote would be for "Sunny" as well. "Rainbow" would be a close second.

However, I'd like to also suggest "Doppler" in honor of Christian Doppler, who discovered the effect that helped revolutionize the way weather is forecasted today. It's both unique and a conversation starter, and it rolls off the tongue a lot better than "ESP."

But I'm sure that no matter what name is bestowed upon her, she'll be as happy and as well-liked by you and your fellow Kansas Citians as Windy and Stormy are. Congrats!

This name is by far not original, however I was watching a show where a "weatherperson" (I do dislike p.c. words) and his dog were guests and his dogs name was Chance. I thought, "How appropriate", what word do we hear from the weather forcast more often than there is a "chance" of this or a "chance" of that. And, of course, there is the dog is the Disney movie named "Chance" as well. Good Luck with both the new puppy and the naming dilemma.

Gary - I'm horrible with being creative on names so I've read through them and actually like the name Dusty posted by Angie.

The reason being... 10-15 years from now people will ask why your name is Dusty and you can say that when you adopted the dog we were on the brink of a horrible drought and all your loyal blog readers were worried sick about their lawns, gardens, foundations of homes, and so forth. I'm don't think it has a negative light to it... just a historical one. Anyhow, my two cents!

Dear Gary,
She looks incredibly smart! I suggest the names 'Doppler' or 'Radar'. She's going to notice everything. Look at those ears! Whatever you name her, she will be a very lucky dog. God Bless Windy and Stormy and the newest one. susan

Gary,
Since your new pup has big floppy ears, how about the name Doppler? It would be hard to expect her to respond to ESP, so Doppler would work out well.

Gary,

Your puppy is a cutie!! I have a perfect name for you - DATA! I think that may have been a Star Trek character, but I thought it fit you perfectly. New Data would be too long. So just Data the Dog! :-)

Neila,

Data is moving to the top of the list! Thanks.

Naming is almost as much fun as getting a new pup! Twister is good, or Halley (as in the comet). I also like Solstice-but maybe that would be better for a Golden!
She's a lucky pup, and I'm sure you'll enjoy her.

Gary-
I love thinking of pet names. Remember my kitty "MIO" =(Made in Oklahoma) that was one of your Pet Picks just a few weeks ago. Mio's sister's name is "Minnipawsal" (Minne for short) because she is a girl with a moustache.
For your new little girl puppy I like-
"Sunshine" (Sunny for short).
How about the wind measuring device- "Anemometer" (Annie for short).

First of all, you are awesome. I am a huge animal activist, and you are a great role model for that. I asked my 3 1/2 year old daughter for a name, and she said Summer. Probably because she is ready for it! But, I thought that kinda went with your theme for your adorable dogs.
Take care! She is precious.

We have had two German Shepherd puppies, and they have ears just like your new puppy. I named one Cody and the Toxa. However, when I looked at them, I thought, why didn't I name them "Radar" because of the large ears that would rotate when you talked to them. They finally grew into them, but I still think I should have named them Radar.
Good luck with your new puppy, and I hope Storm and Windy teach it new things.

What a great addition to your clan, congrats! I have to throw my two cents in for the name Twister. Things can be calm and then bam! this whirling ball of fur can come through and destroy (or at least re-arrainge things) in seconds. Have fun!

Congratulations - she's a beauty! A new twist on some of the name suggestions: use the German word for the name, in honor of her "heritage"(??) Some translations include - Breezy - Frisch; Sunny - Heiter, or Sonnig; Thunder - (der) Donnerschlag; Hail (for Haily) - (der) Hagel; Misty - Neblig (my favorite!), or Dunstig. Other translations could be looked up as well. Good luck; we will be looking forward to the name you choose :-)

Gary,

I am a HSGKC volunteer (I do the calendar). Is this Maxine? I saw her and fell in love too! She has the sweetest face. It looks like you have quite a few suggestions to choose from, and they are good. I came up with a few different "nature" names to go with her sweet face (also having a name that doesn't start with an S or W since those consonants are already taken):
Lily
Misty
Sky
Tulip
Daisy

Good luck! Picking a great name is tough. Congrats on your beautiful, new addition.
