RECORD HIGH
TODAY'S NUMBERS:
HIGH: 92 (NEW RECORD!!)
LOW: 59
Today we hit a record high... the old record was 88 degrees, set back in 1936. Today we made it into the lower 90s!! Do you believe it? It is only April 13th... and I am amazed!
Friday will be another hot day, with highs expected to climb back into the lower 90s. (the record for Friday is 92... so we could be close again!) The only thing that could hold us back is some cloud cover... we may have some high clouds around during the afternoon. Otherwise, expect gusty southwest winds through the day, as a cold front approaches.
That COLD front won't bring us much in the way of rain chances (or cold air)... but it will stall to our south and lift back north as a WARM front on Saturday morning. This is our next chance of rain. You can see the NAM picking up on it below:

It is about a 40% chance of rain for Saturday morning right now. THEN we have to watch the setup for Saturday afternoon/evening. There is a SLIGHT chance some additional thunderstorms will fire to our west, along a dryline. IF that happens, any thunderstorm could be severe. But there is only about a 20% chance of that happening right now... most of it looks like it will be to our north. Something to watch, nonetheless!
We really could use the rain, as I am sure you know! Here is the latest Drought Assessment from the Climate Prediction Center. You can see, not much has changed:

There are cooler temperatures in the 7 day forecast! Highs could be in the 60s (even 50s) by the end of next week... won't that feel refreshing??!! :)
Have a good one,
Jamie

Hi Jamie et al:
We've had action, granted, but I'd trade that for a front stalled to our south with overrunning storms all day long for inches and inches of rain. Now it would appear, the pattern is into an extremely BORING and continued DRY pattern...Should I move to New Mexico, where one doesn't expect rain, and so isn't digusted when it does not happen. If I won the Lottery, I do believe I'd move to that region - I like the high desert anyway - why be teased all the time?

HI, DOG!
I know what you mean. Do you know that someone in Missouri won the lottery? It could have been YOU!! :)

Have you guys ever thought of sending your blog updates as an RSS feed as well? I would love to get updated blogs that way!
MARLINA:
We don't know what an RSS feed is! Enlighten us, please! :)

Wow, this weather is giving me summer fever already! I walked out of work on thursday and the warm breeze slapped me across the face. We had to turn the AC on yesterday which is fine with me. Too bad I'm stuck at work on friday! :(
DAVE:
I, too, have resisted turning on the AC in our home! But it's totally on in the car!! :)

Looking at tomorrow, seems the SPC has the bulls eye a bit north of us, and based on everything else this year, I would guess it will go north of us. But...looking at the GFS 12Z 500 vort I see what looks like some energy quite negatively tilted near KC...also, looking at the dewpoint projections..they seem to be rather high. I don't see this as a rainmaker, but more as another meso type situation with a bow later in the night maybe east and north of us. Also looking at the soundings for Topeka, seems the cap is well established..wonder if we can break it...this season has shown that cap to be rather stubborn...
We shall see...

Watch out if the 18Z NAM is right...

Hi Jamie! It's pretty sad when I'm getting excited about a 30% chance of rain in April. Actually, the lawn and flowers are excited. I'm just hopeful. Is there really any chance of rain and if so, will it be significant enough to matter or will it be less than a 1/4 inch and then so hot tomorrow it will all dry up by evening? Thanks!
HI, HANK!
Actually, we have upped it to a 40% chance of thunderstorms on Saturday! So you can be excited about another 10%!! :)
I do not think EVERYONE will see rain on Saturday. But the lucky ones who do could see some significant amounts in the thunderstorms. There is a chance of thunderstorms in the morning and early afternoon... and again in the evening. The areas most likely to see the evening activity are from Kansas City northward.
We will keep you updated, as we are in a slight risk for severe storms here... and a moderate risk exists to our north.

Jamie, Our average last frost is April 19th. If it hasen't already happened, do you see it possibly between the 20th and 22nd?
Gary B.
GARY:
According to Gary's weather pattern theory... the cold part of the pattern should start again soon. There would be a chance of frost sometime between the 20th and the 30th.

Jamie, Do you know the if Dan Henry has passed on? If not, how he can be reached? Growing up with the telecomunications over the years, I remember he stood out and during bad weather and came across in a way that made you feel calm, but yet understood the danger like a preacher. As far as weather toys go, It was a big thing in the 70's just to have a simple radar. In my mind, he was the best and most trusted. He probably saved my life a time or two. Gary's a lot like him.
Gary B.
GARY:
As far as we know, Dan Henry is still alive! We do not know how to get a hold of him, however... sorry!
